Its stats were fine, lets face it +920 tung for a ship thats worse at mining that a centaur? nobody is going to want that..

Change it back...

Yeah, move it to suggestions...

[Edit]

I dont care how much pressure you guys are under, if you keep pulling out half assed updates like this one, you may loose a few loyal players, not me included in this statement.

I demand that the EC-88 is improved!
I mean, I have NO chance against a valk! THE HORROR!
I worked hard to get my bus, and I refuse to accept that it sucks. You might lose some dedicated bus pilots if this carries on.

PS:
Don't move this to suggestions, lock it, burn it and spread the ashes out to the four winds.

And as always Genka has a great reply...

..They removed the new mission as it was bugged, they yet again killed ships players like, and its not my feelings im expressing...

...If the rebalancing needs to be done fine, but do it right. (im sure most players would rather wait for the total, instead of the 22% were getting right now)

[Edit]

OK, so im supposed to work my ass off for a ship that is worse for mining, than a ship i can get anyways...

ie :
centaur 2 l 1 s <-- you can buy it anywhere(room for two beams, and a scanner)
Mining maud 1 l 1 s <-- Slower, and less thrust that a standard centaur... .. but requires +920 tung standing.

A la ver cum a la ver.

My french sucks, dunnit?

Mining mauds were being equipped with gatling turrets and used as improved Warthogs, which is a niche that didn't need filling.
Jan 18, 2005 yodaofborg link
So your telling me the current warthog is balanced? ok, a ship i used to fly lots, that i now dont fly...

So OK its not supposed to be a combat ship... ...but any ship in this game could be.... (ask the duo with their Centuar of deth, and the Centaur of pain)

...So why not give it 2 l ports? At least make it better for mining than a current centaur....

Example :

Mining in a centaur : pirate shows up, i run away at 200 ms, or shoot swarms at them, as i had room for 1 gun.

Mining in a Tung Maud : pirate shows up, not only have i not even got half full, but i have little chance of running, i have not even the room for a gun, so i die...

[edit]

Roguelazer, this isnt some nat ship, its a sub faction ship that you have to work your ass off for... ...+920 standing is hard, even for your originating faction, IMHO, the origional tung maud should have not been above 700, now I wont even bother. (even if it was -600 for it)
Jan 18, 2005 Lonestar00 link
Another reason for mining ports.
Jan 18, 2005 Borb II link
If it had 3 L ports and 1 S port it would be a great minner. Just my thougths...

PLEASE wait for the balance update later in the week. Then you'll have more info.

More civil posts might get better results, btw.
Jan 18, 2005 yodaofborg link
Sorry FM, I just got told by a vet they are leaving because of this, not everyone is prepared to wait, more than they have already...

[Edit]

I myself am prepared to wait (hence my 6 mo account with another year pending), and said just what you said to me, to them.

[Edit 2]

I dont even have the ship im talking about.

I am skeptical that anyone will really quit because they don't like the way the Mining Marauder's stats were changed.

Three points:

1. Doesn't a Centaur fall into the category of 'heavy ship'? If so, its changes have yet to materialize. Very hard to say how the Mining Marauder will ultimately stack up against the Centaur.

2. Can you tell whether +920 faction is still required? If this requirement was substantially lowered, say to +600, that would not be immediately apparent. (That is to say nothing about the "wasted" work of getting up to +920 to begin with, however.)

3. It may be that the upcoming balance patch will modify the Mining Marauder further, and this was just a near-term step to prevent people from using it as a Superhog.
Jan 18, 2005 yodaofborg link
Yeah, your right, it is more than the mining maud, but that is the first point.

And what i hope got a few of you to click this.

[edit]

And yes, you are correct, who knows? but I still do not have one... ...nor would I want one at this minute in time, Roguelazer was kind of right, I was looking for a replacement hog (funny that i have not seen too many mining mauds in space? have you?), but alas, i have grown to love the prom again (im just hoping they do to the rest what they did to the sky, kinda - my beef would be *its a heavy ship transport/bomber - it should have 2 heavy, 1 light... ...and according to the back story, it should be light for its size *it is* but be at least as turnable to track a valk *the sky currently is*) I wish these were my points, but have been scared to say with the current CTC situation.
Jan 18, 2005 CrippledPidgeon link
I'd actually prefer to see the Prom with two S and two L. That'd put it smack inbetween the Centaur and the Ragnarok in terms of weapons, but slightly better maneuverability than both. Two L give good support options, and two S give it close-in hitting power.
Jan 18, 2005 onyx link
That's the thing: it was a better Hog. And there is a niche for better heavy ships. It took a lot of work to get. It sucks for mining. It has a competitive armour, for a large ship.

It was NOT overpowered. Loaded (weapons, not cargo) it weighted 7+ tons, with 13m lenght. A CentIII loaded has 4.5K, same thrust, 10m long. This means 40% MORE turning speed, 30% better accel, not counting the infiniturbo, for hit-n-run tactics. There is plenty of room for beating it, if you don't simply close on it...

Again, you don't see many Vets running heavy ships, not even mauds. This must have a reason... personal preference? I don't think so.

[wylfing] I'm quitting. I had the account cancelled a couple of weeks ago, but it's still running until the end of the month. I was waiting to see the speed of progress. This was the drop I needed to make up my mind.

Outbursts like these make me think the devs should back off public testing of the ships. Fire up the old 18 sector universe (or hell, just a two sector universe so wormhole scenarios could be tested) and have sign ups for testers. Make it known that testers would have to be on at x day at y time for z hours. Then snag either the top ten candidates (or a randomly selected top ten), and let them test the new ships. Make it clear that this is a test server, and with only ten people to watch over (maybe stick a guide in there), it shouldn't be too hard to keep them on task.

Or take a page out of planetside's book and have a publicly available test server with limited slots and a smaller universe that is essentially a sandbox for dev changes. At the end of the day the devs could upload whatever changes they had made and let the players have at them. After a few weeks or when the gross faults are ironed out, release it to the public and patch away anything that slipped through.

This way you avoid the recurring problem of putting out unbalanced ships and weapons, only to realize the mistake a week or two later and have to yank them just as people have finished the weeks of work necessary to fly or use them. I know the devs are only four people, I know this isn't a finished game, I know, I know, I KNOW - but people are paying now. They expect a game, not a testbed. The patch notes for the last update are a perfect example: "- New trade mission available for testing"

People aren't paying to TEST, they're paying to PLAY. Ever wonder why the active players graph hasn't gone above 100 for a while? They don't like working towards something only to find that when they get there it's been changed from what they wanted. Keep changes like that seperate from the public servers.

That way, when you release a comprehensive ship balance patch, or new mission patch, in a month or a month and a half, EVERYONE gets the same thing forever. Right now stuff gets released, is exploitable for a little bit in some way, some users get to use it or even get used to it, and then it gets fixed. The devs aren't going to wipe what those that came before did, but the fact remains that for those that come after it's a different, usually more tedious, game. The advanced combat mission comes to mind.

Either way you anger some, but with a seperate test server it's all at once instead of each week a new uproar of outrage. We understand that it's a work in progress, but I think there's enough evidence that that understanding only goes so far.
Jan 18, 2005 Sputnik66 link
starfisher this is the best suggestion i've seen in a long time.

this would:

1. test out new balences on ships, equipment, and weapons on the fly.
2. test out new ideas such as; cargo missions, new bases, new widgets on the fly.
3. Build As You Go(TM). introduce wild ideas the developers would never considure on the main server for fear of expoitation, and fear of the classic "what the hell is this, this is only 2% completed".

from what i understand the current servers are capable of supporting 2 thousand people. currently we're only utilizing 210 (tops). above all as starfisher said having a test server (vendetta test :D) would speed up production time, and iron out bugs; which is seriously needed at this point.

think of this as Gentoo stable (main server), and the Gentoo Unstable/experimental branch in portage (test server).
Jan 18, 2005 wylfing link
A test server would be a really good idea if it operated under restraint (as you said). Limit test server uptime and roster so that the main server does not become a wasteland.

Er, well, I flew the MMaud much better than even the Hog TD. When I dueled tramshed, he won with half his life against my Hog TD. When I brought out the MMaud, I won with half life.

In light of the new weapon available however, that one will upset many old norms.

Hey guys,

I left the game because I thought it was not worth paying for.

I still follow on the board what is happening though. Because I bought the pre-order box after playing in Alpha and Beta.

What happens currently seems to confirm my decision to "wait and see".

Biggest thing I mentioned ...........

Read the current News section. What does it say in the headline / subject?????

It says:

Vendetta Test 1.1.8

Really, check it out. It says "TEST". You guys still pay for a test?

I know, I should be nice on the forum. But it says "TEST" still.

That's the reason I currently don't pay for it.

The break-even point was supposedly 2,000 subscribers. Don't see that remotely.

So, is this "engine test" back on the market for sale while people pay for it to play???

Good question, or what?
