Once you become Admired by a nation are they supposed to turn green? Well I FINALLY got Admiration status with the Itani nation, and the station bots were still red when I went to one of the stations, I then ran innto a player that was GREEN on my radar, but he said I was RED on his, I then seen another player and he and I were both RED to each other. The NPC's were red too. What's up with this!?
I don't know how the radar colors work. And I don't know anyone who does. I would love to be enlightened on this subject...
the radar works by admiration level, if the person you are viewing on radar has high standings w/.. your nation I believe, then they show up as friendly.. This has changed several times, and as Beolach says, no one really knows how it works... essentially it shouldn't be your admiration that drives who is what color, it should be their admiration level.. and station bots.. have no admiration.. they're just bots :)
So if mcnut's supposition is to be taken as fact, then DragonEmpire should have appeared as green on the other person's radar as he was admired by that player's faction. Since this was not the case, then the player's standing with another faction can not be the deciding factor.
The whole system needs a bit of revamping. I see Axia and Corvus bots as green even though Serco starts at -200 with these factions while I see BioCom as red even as Serco starts at +200 with this faction. Makes no sense.
Perhaps it should be (more or less) as mcnut stated. If I am 0 (or maybe +201) or better, I should show as green to other players of the apporpriate faction (and vise versa).

I don't even remember exactly how this works. It needs to be reappraised along with the whole faction system.
lol
From what we were told, the colors are based on your nation's admiration with theirs. IE: If you are Itani and your nation hates Serco, sercos will show up as red on your radar, even if they have high Itani standing and you have high Serco standing.
Hmm.... well, Shape shows up as red to me. We're both Itani (except, Shape of course isn't really...)
That's because shape doesn't have a nation.
From a role-playing standpoint, it's true that Shape doesn't have a nation, but from a technical "how the radar works" standpoint, unless Shape got his wish of being made officially unaligned, Shape is still Itani. The last time I was on & saw Shape, the targetting computer did still show him as Itani (and red), anyway.
Maybe it would be good if we all just had a permanent color to represent each nation on the radar. Sercos would be red, Itani-blue,Uit-gold and bots could be red all of the time.
From the sounds of it, no one REALLY knows how the radar colors work. Some posts here try to explain it but theres too many conflicts against it.
@mcnut: How do you explain I was still red to Itani?
@paedric: A little off topic but completly agree with you. I am Serco, as some people already know or inferred from my posts, and Axia and Corvus are green at -200 and BioCom is red at +200.
@roguelazer: How would you explain the occasional green Itani and red Serco (the Serco still having good faction.)
@Massai: Good idea but then how would you tell who's Serco or a bot?
I don't mean to critisize anyone here or anything but either the faction/radar system needs to be fixed, or someone needs to give a really good explaination.

When I'm in UIT space I appear red on otherwise friendly Serco's radars that have good UIT standing. The plot thickens...

I have seen Itani that appear on radar as friendly (green) to me. All Serco NPC traders appear as red to me in Itani space while Itani NPC traders appear as red no matter where they are located.
Re DragonEmpire: Not really off topic as it is related to what you were experiencing.
Re Massai: Bots could be purple, magenta, or some other distinctive color . No reason to lump them in with Serco.

paedric, now that I think about it 90% of Serco (NPC, players, etc...) appear red on my radar when I'm in Itani space...
What I am about to suggest HAS been suggested before, a reworking of radar colors.
(-1000)-(-600):Red
(-599)-(-200):Orange
(-199)-(+199):Yellow
(+200)-(+599):Lime (Or some other color between Yellow and Green)
(+600)-(+1000):Green
Group:White
Guild:?
With the exception of group or guild, this is how it would work, for example, if a Serco and a UIT meet, and the Serco has -300 with UIT, and the UIT +615 with Serco, the Serco would appear as ORANGE on the UIT radar and the UIT GREEN on the Serco radar.
Therefore, the determined color of the dot on the radar depends on the persons standing with you.
I say again, this HAS been suggested before.

People...it's all very simple:
Red = potential enemy = be prepared to defend.
Green = potential enemy = be prepared to defend.
Red = potential enemy = be prepared to defend.
Green = potential enemy = be prepared to defend.
RelayeR, with all due respect, why have any differentiation on radar at all? Should we go back to the Engine Test/Apha system where any ships not of your nation were red/targetable?
The upshot of this thread was that the system needs some reworking (as even Incarnate himself has admitted). It makes little sense in practice and therefore serves no practical purpose or function.

My suggestion was meant to give ideas on the re-working of the radar system. In this system pilots that are green to you you wouldn't have to worry about at all, well not much at least, and red would be the ones to look out for.
And ya RalayeR, that would be simple but then what would be the point of factions? I would have gotten Itani for no reason... except for docking privilages of course.

RelayeR, that is now my favorite post of all time. I laughed my head off. Thank you.
