--->Its not just a "who screws up first" match<--
Uuuhm, actually, it is.

Backrolling is a great tactic, however it brings no interest to a fight. I had a pvp fght the other night with a player, and it was the best fight id had in a long time! we both used boost to gain advantages, strafing a such, no backrolling, and it really gave us a buzz...backrolling is good, but its just not fun for anyone
Ben, I like it and it gives me fun if it is used with a certain measure. Meaning try to keep the person your fighting at your preffered distance by backrolling or using arcade and therefore advancing. Naturally if 1 person contineously keeps on advancing then Ill keep on backing off. If the person keeps on backing off, ill keep on closing in. Its a game that goes 2 ways (action - reaction...)
And shape, I used to be able to land decent hits at 200 - 300m. It was the only semi-decent way at taking down eldrad. But you just have to wait on a couple moments. And that is my strength. Never been a flowing shooting type, I mostly try to shoot when I think that it will hit. Reason why I use heavy hitting weapons with a slow reload. And why I sucked during the 3.2 era, since it were the times of shoot first ask questions later.
And yes the <100m fighrs are exactly the first who screws up is dead moments...

So are the 300m fights, except who screws up should get a smack on the head for not being able to dodge the fire that's taking over a second to get there.
Whats the sound of two backrollers dueling in the forest.
That's a big forest tramshed.
hah!
Star,
nope, I have messed up a lot getting taken to 10% while the other one was 100%, but then I get the guy to 0 in a couple hits and me saves the day :D.
chances to punish somebody at 100m for a mistake is way bigger then at 300m, and sorry but nothing is going to acknowledge something else.

No, a good duel involves interesting tactics, a person can fail to recognize a trick. But excellence in tactics is rewarded as much as a switch into turbolock is punished.

hehe,
tactics... they don't exist for 1vs1. Only for 1vsx, with x>1.
Unless you consider using the backroll against the forwardcomming person a tactic...

Yup, it's a tactic. It's very useful for disengaging from a fight. What people get pissed about is someone swooping in, firing a stream of tachs, then backrolling off firing ever more inaccurate streams of tachs. Then, once they realize they are out of range, they swoop in again and backroll off. This type of combat is BORING, and very easy to dodge.
Backrolling, rocket jousts, the complicated dodge patterns people use without rolling while tach fighting, they're all tactics.

starfisher, never did that.
I mostly swooped in at around 200 - 300m, and then tried to keep it at that distance...
but in your case, yes your right that is boring...

Saying there are no tactics in 1vs1 shows little experience with pvp. Perhaps we could arrange a duel so I could show you otherwise.
jup got little experience with pvp. Especially since im even more rusty then a long forgotten dagger...
Ohnoes Rene! The noobs are railing against us! Whatever shall we do?! However shall we defend our opinion?!?!
NOOOOOO!!
Seriously, ALL combat between evenly matched opponents comes down to who makes a mistake first. Now, you may like to think of yourself as 'not recognizing a tactic' whenever you loose, but the fact is, that's still a mistake whether you like it or not.
I don't think I'm going to even touch on the subject of what I think about all your so-called tactics. Wait! I just did! MAGIC!

backpedaling...
it amuses me how so called vets attack, then backpedal off... are their skills not good enough, that they have to use all the advantages backpedaling gives (if the opponent follows)?
Well, it's boring as hell, but i recognise, a good tactic to escape pirates for traders etc. when you don't initiate the combat.
backpedaling is a botting skill brought to pvp that is tedious and annoying. nothing more... requires no skill which is this games selling point... think i'll post a suggestion on the matter anyway..
Temp.

that's a good ideea.. i shall try using backpedaling on bots :)
Genka, get your panties out of a bunch. :D
My point was that ingenuity is rewarded.
There is no "perfect duel". At that range... sheer precession would leave one side with a shot at some point.

When rocket-ramming ruled and "backrolling" (as you call it) was discovered as an alternative, it was largely dismissed because it still wasn't foolproof. Now that people are learning that it's easier to dodge if you're not hurtling at the enemy, all you people are saying "backrolling" is an issue. It isn't. I can still beat it with rails and rockets, which are the two heaviest weapons in the game. When a new tactic comes out, you need to learn how to counter it. Instead, you want to nerf it. That's where you go wrong- you want the devs to give you instant gratification, rather than try to do something for yourselves. The flight model hasn't changed in, well, ever. But none of us ever complained about the ability to dodge in physics mode, not in beta or in alpha. So I suggest that the devs ignore this thread, and that we move on.
I used back pedalling when i was noob.
1 of the first things i learned in game in combat mode.
but since i never used it again.
keep it or remove it doesnt matter to me.
but "backpedalling" could help (only way) for players that use heavy (slow) ship to keep their distance from a light ship.
i don't think a complain is valid when it's come from a player that is using gauss canon and couldnt not able to get close to his target.
he should change his weapon instead of a complain.
backpedalling is usless in group fight.
work only 1 vs 1.
/laught : in duel the fighters are using "backpedalling".
if they are not stupid they will understand that they couldnot kill somone like that. so if they want a kill. they will be forced to go forward indeed. no need to complain.
