Alright I admit it, I typekill. Someone please tell me what is wrong with it? I dont kill noobs, I rarely kill players under lv 6 combat [maybe i've killed one out of 47 kills], and rarely attack traders [maybe 2 out of 47]. Typekilling is part of the game, part of the roleplaying. I do not grief [its not my fault its always the same Serco in unclaimed space]. What is wrong with typekilling? and why do people keep calling me a typekiller like it is a nasty thing? Part of this game is playing the role of a member of a nation with an enemy, I'm just playing my part.
Any online game, scenario...
Me: See's enemy charcter and opens fire, the character does not move, so i kill him.
Them: OMFG You n00b i was typing a msg ffs! you typekiller.
Me: *Flips the bird* Choose a better time to type a message, im not a mind reader, and your also dead, just deal with it.
Them: OMG, you n00b, you typekiller.
Me: types /ignore playername <-- if applicable.
People moan about typekilling. And they would, nobody likes it to happen to them, but i bet they have done it to other people. Just ignore them, tell them if they want to type in a station, they wont die... LOL

I have never typekilled...
Don't suggest that everybody is an ass that prefers to kill everything in its path. There are people that can have fun with only flying around a bit. Or shooting back people that shot you.
Typekilling is lame because you take advantage of ramming someone that is parked on the sidecurve reading a newspaper or watching a little movie or even phoning someone.
In reality you get even a ticket for raming the dude since you are the transgressor...

Ah, usually i dont typekill either, my post was just an example that it happens. <-- I have type killed, or the victim has claimed i have in lots of online games, and if your reading a newspaper, dock?. its not always obvious that your using one hand/not looking/typing when your ship is moving.
[Edit - flame material removed..lol]
I do feel like giggling at Aticephyrim, just for making this post.

It's so easy to break of an attack if the other pilot does not defend him/herself. I personally don't take that advantage because I feel it is a little on the dishonorable side.
I also realize that other pilots have different values than I and that it does happen.
Take yoda's advise. Either space or dock.

I know that it happens,
I know that I have been victim of it and that it should be better to dock, problem is that you don't always have the chance, since you have to pick up the phone in real life or do some other short little job for which you think that it will only last a couple secs, but which might take longer.
I know that this happens, and I will also try to dock or space myself in these cases.
I just posted the previous post since it seemed as if the person posting it found it normal to typekill... And I just stated that it is not normal but only done by people to young or inexperienced to pull off a normal kill or people on a small powertrip (I rule, I roxor your boxorz...). Or people that can't stand the persons guts. I epxect to see a lot of people typekilling icarus if he ever was found hanging silently in space :D

Hmm, Rene. Typekills are the fault of the person who types, every single time. If you have to pick up the phone, such is life. That is one of the reasons why I have the phone next to my computer. Plus, you can make an escape jump pretty quick without seriously detaining yourself from the conversation.
Since there is no *I'm typing* indicator (al la Descent 3), there is no definitive way to establish whether a person is typing, sunning themselves, or having connection problems short of messaging them. Given that there is no indication, the onus is on the typer to get themselves in a safe place prior to gracing Global Chat with their thoughts on the state of the universe.
I am not an advocate of type killing but if you are lying stationary in a travel lane in grey space whilst "chatting", you have no cause to complain about getting your ship shot out from under you. Get yourself to a station or jump to an empty sector (of which there are dozens). Get out of sight. Space yourself. Don't just stop in sight of a wormhole and compose a treatise on wormhole ganking (or what-have-you).

toshiro,
Its just a game, vendetta is not real life for us(we are not devs), not to mention that the telephone right besides my screen would be a cause for interference and in general be enough to decrease the lifetime of the screen. Not to mention that if you have to go so far just for a damned game then the game can be stolen to me for all I care since it is an addiction in stead of a method to pass time in an enjoyable fashion.
Besides, I stated that I would try that as much as possible to put myself in safety. BUT I do not agree nor will ever agree that typekilling is anything but unhonourable. And everybody who doesn't agree is either full of it or doesn't know the value of honour.
Besides, what does it matter if they are just hanging there, why in the heck should you even shoot them... As long as they have not did anything to wrong you no matter the representation that they are in, why in gods name would you even consider of shooting them but any other reason then being unable to take on people in a fair way or to act as an ass. Its a game, enjoy don't be an ass... Real life has already got more then enough of them.

I really only kill (er, fight I'm still working on the killing part) people who are not UIT and get closer then 800m to me at a WM. Unless I'm playing CtC...
For the most part I try to be nice. After all it's a game and it should be fun for every one.

typekilling in personal combat is interesting. Its usually very hard to see ahead of time when somones ship acts up in the middle of a battle situation. A good sign is that the turbo locks up or other such (hi Niki) unfortunately, its hard to avoid.
Typekills, Caps kills and so on tend to happen in combat (somone pressess t out of accident while fighting... oh shit. dead) and aren't very fair nor fun.
Typekills from somone who escapes a sector and heads in towards a station or otherwise "gets away" are a different thing, I'm usually -very- careful about attacking at this point, and a careless typekill can be.. harmful.
There are a few kills that I've gotten that aren't fair at all, typekills heading into or out of a wormhole are hard to deal with, Especially the trader who tried to tell me he'd pay when he saw me... "oops" ;)
However, its a fact of life that they happen, it will be harder for fighter pilots to do so now, since they can't just lock turbo and be gone, so count on less chatting overall.

If your in open space, near a wormhole and your sitting there and are from an opposing faction, you will be fired upon, plain and simple. It is your responsibility to find a safe spot to type your messages. It is not the responsibility of the attacking vessel to make sure you are at your station, ready to attack. If your caught slipping you pay the price, get over it.

This last line bothers me. We shouldnt have to take a wild guess when the guides are peforming their duties, and worry about the consequences. If RelayeR is killed by someone while say, he's muting someone, you'll just have to deal with it, because you're choosing to participate in the game while being a guide. If you do get killed, sure, be pissed, but that does _NOT_ permit you to use your /oper privs to play the game. I'm also a bit bitter towards you for killing me in protected space, and then using your warping abilities to leave before the defbots got to you.

I agree. If I get shot under those circumstances I won't use guide powers to retaliate.
I will, however, hunt the person down in a conventional way.

Uhum, it should be more plain to see that someone is a guide when playing.
If RelayeR has been guilty of said offence b i still dont believe you. I can shoot people outside stations and get away im not a guide, but trust me, i know a guide who used said powers to prove a point, was I pissed? no, I at least knew he was a guide... This does need pointing out ingame, maybe tag - name colour change.
retract these flames, i have asked RelayeR lots of time to serco advantage in CTC with ZERO success, and before i asked i knew the answer each time....

alienb:
1) I don't recall ever engaging you let alone killing you.
2) I have never used my guide powers to play the game unless it had no bearing on the game.
3) It was meant as a joke. I always station or space myself if I must perform some work on something or someone.
Nice try.
*Does this have something to do with your statement from IRC yesterday about "putting guides in their places"???

The typekilling discussions always amaze me. The devs have made it clear that this isn't a "safe" game. There is always a potential for combat. Dock if you are going to communicate at length, or keep your eyes peeled if you are going to send short messages while in flight.
As for the guides, any and all instances of guide command use are logged and emailed to the devs on a regular basis. They can also be researched easily. If players have specific instances to relate, they may email the devs with their information and it will be looked into.

The on thing i have not seen mentioned is CTC... If your typing in ctc along the route you sol... Sorry you should type in a ctc system at your own risk.
