This game seems really fun, and if i could get anything accomplished without getting jumped and killed, over and over again, by the same PKer, i would. I don't know why some people get off on killing new players, but i for one will be cancelling my account because of this situation.
If some method can be introduced to prevent mid-level griefers with attitude problems from destroying the experience of new players, i will happily return, and look forward to finding out(hopefully within the month) that this is no longer a problem.
I hate to say it, but the only game less friendly to new players currently on the market is Planetside....

erisdiscord, I'm real sorry to hear that. I would hope you can try to find a way around this guy. Is it possible to create a new character and start off at a different station? If you know his name, check the site to see if he's not on and try moving to another sector.
I know it sucks that you have to work hard to enjoy the game, but I hope you find it worth it. Maybe some other people have some ideas to help out.

If you stay in your nations territory (Itani. Serco... UIT..) you will hardly ever find a PK'er. The def bots will kill anybody that attacks you in monitored space.
However if you leave that space and go to the "grey" space, that is unmonitored and unalligned, you are risking death. The trade routes and missions are more profitable because it is more dangerous.
Any new people should avoid grey space until they learn to defend themselves.

I assure you, as a new player, i did not leave the central yellow cluster. The player in question likes to hang out near the warp gate. If i had been in grey red or blue territory i could understand, but i was one jump from the yellow team's home sector.
I don't really play games to 'Work hard' to enjoy them, and i don't have a hard time enjoying this game. I do have a hard time enjoying being killed by some *clearly* higher level character while trying to get to level ONE!

Actually, being killed over, over, and over be the same player would be called singling out a victim to a point where he no longer plays the game anymore and that would be bad as well.
If I was a PKer, I would always be on the move.

I think all veterans who prey on new players need to understand that most people are not used to being killed on site repeatedly in games right from the start and will not stay in VO if not given enough time to get used this aspect of gameplay. All alpha's and beta's (and anyone else who employs this tactic) should be more selective of their targets. We WANT these people to stay, not give up in frustration . . . especially at the start of the games official launch.
Oh, and I forgot newbies are the next generations of role players/leaders/whatever.
Newbie leaving because he got singled out in a pay to play game would mean, lesser sales for the company. And possible bad reviews saying "not newbie friendly".

Again I would like to point out that you chose the UIT nation, you have access to all territories at the start, but unfortunatly that also means you are neutral. And some factions in UIT space don't have strike forces to patrol out of their station sector, its the price you pay for having access to things other people don't. I'm going to take a guess that you were in the Azek system, and most likely in the sector J-1. This place is pirate heaven due to the fact that def bots don't get out there very often.
If you want a profitable future by all means go UIT, but if you want saftey as a new player I would advise you stick to Serco or Itani.

Wait a minute. Eris, did you ever leave the BASE you began at? Have you been able to get through the tutorial mission? What's the name of this PKer?
I think the best way to handle this would be to request help. There are plenty of experienced players who hate griefers as much as you do, Eris, and would be glad to rid the universe of one.
Azek J1 does seem to be a problem spot for newbs.
I don't recommend making everything into care-bear land, but since Azek J1 is one jump away from Dau, the neutral capitol and noob city, perhaps it should be a little more heavily defended.

I agree have you reported the PKer to the game guides? If they really are Griefing you they could be talked to and locked out.
They players I've run into usually follow the "no buses" rule to avoid killing new players. If this person isn't following common ettiqute let the community know. There are players who would be glad to fly with you to protect you from a bully.

I think most of us know who this user is, and that he isn't a vet (I hadn't encountered him till very recently). It may take some time for the ettiqute rules to sink into some. I don't think its griefing, so much as picking off any easy players he can.
While pirating is a part of the game, I would classify this one as going too far.
Maybe asking for help from one of the guilds if you plan on making any trips that way? I'm sure you could get an escort easy if you ask, not just from a guild.

my name is Sebastian in game, i like pvp, and i'd love to take care of this player. next time you are headed out see if i am available, i'll escort you as best i can... and i am sure that goes for other members of the Elite Guild. :)
The bottom line, of course, is that Vendetta is not a safe place to fly. There are safeguards in place to help reduce the possibility for violence near home systems, but they are certainly not perfect. The possibility is always there that someone will be waiting for you. Such is our lot in life, boldly going where angles fear to tread.
I can perfectly understand not wanting to put up with a bloodthirsty pilot that likes to prey on unlicensed victims. The good news is that you're not alone. Put the word out and let others know what's going on. Some of us will be happy to fly on your wing and rid the space lanes of vermin.
As an aside, a player organized distress channel might be a fun idea. Set aside a channel number for your guild/faction/whatever to monitor for calls of help. Just keep in mind that others might be listening to. Vendettas are often bloody....

I don't know if it's the same guy, but I had an almost identical experience. His name was Jsteiner, he was hanging around the same jump point and nicely killed me while delivering medical supplies. Not much fanfare, just boom. He was way out of my class, too. I tried going through the same sector later and he attacked me again without any warning at all. Luckily I outran him the second time.
I saw him hanging around doing the same thing to others, not to mention bragging about it in channel 100. I don't know if this is the same guy giving grief to others, but if so, I would totally approve of someone kicking his ass :)
I second the idea of a player distress channel of some sort. This would also go along well with my suggestion for a faction-based news post at the faction stations so that players could post more permanent warnings to this effect, or organize retribution without the other factions knowing :)

It is true that Vendetta is not a Safe Place. But we should have some mechanisms in existence so people don't get quite so frustrated, and should be able to gain a few levels before having to worry too much. We've tried to do this by keeping home sectors, newbie hunting zones and the wormhole areas either Guarded or Monitored, but we may need to go beyond this. I recommend people bring up options on the Suggestions forum, and keep in mind that we don't want to create any exploitable or meta-gaming type scenarios. I'll cogitate on this too.
the problem is the common wormhole gankage. this would be namely azek J1. Azek is afterall apart of UIT space thus it should be guarded, not wide open like it has been for sometime.
for the suggestion thread, i'm starting one now.. i'll edit this message to include the URL. -edit: http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/7060
for other information it is jestiener who is terrorizing newbies and should be delt with.

Like some other people said, when this happens put out an announcement and there are a number of people who will flock to put an end to this pirate. That's the nice thing about games like this, soon people get a negative reputation and the next thing they know everytime they log on they have a bunch of vigilantes gunning for them. Let them get ganked a few times, and soon they stop.
i'm affraid that will not work. when one goes another takes his spot.
