hui dev-warp for everybody :)

hey raybondo,
mind grabbing a screenie with rglow 1? =p

Hey ray, you guys could position frigs so that they say stuff. It's like marching bands:
You: go to the top left, turn sideways, spin to your left, play this lick...
Or we could just have killer wars.
My choice: wars.
BTW, those frigs look like a city skyline in that pic.

wow... lotta sectors, sounds like lots of fun :D
So will they all be interesting sectors with stuff in them, or just nondescript regions of space?
will there be frig bots? and will we get avolons back? and will we get new ships/weapons?
Avalons probably won't be back until Frigates are added with the "expansion pack". There's really no use for 'em otherwise. Unless destructable stations are planned.
avalons as we last saw them aren't made for beating something like a frigate, they do very little damage per full rack. Where as they are mostly useful against fighters due to their large blast radius, so hopefully we'll see something very different (possibly with the same name) post frigate expansion.
Well assuming frigates are going to be slow, massive ships it's going to have to be able to take some damage before going down. If anything I think frigates should be nearly immune to small port weapons, while making large port weapons like screamers and avalons the only things that can really chip away at its hull. That would help restore the role for bombers in the game. But anyway... don't want to get too off topic here. Let's just see what they're going to release later on.
Oh ya... thanks devs! I can't wait :D
Good thing my videocard is fixed now; can't wait <drewl>
Arolte, I've always thought the "make this weapon best at defeating such and such" by making it the only weapon that can hurt it as a dumb way of doing it that really ends up making game play far less interesting. If a fighter can keep attacking a frigate for a half hour straight it should be able to kill it. It's similar to making all weapons just no work within 500m of a certain dock vs having a station with defenders get mad at you for shooting from or into their no-fire-zone.
Why not just make avalons, have a prox radius of contact, and a blast radius of 10m, make them really bad homers, and put like 10-15 in a rack? This way they'll actually suck against fighters and be very powerful against frigates (assuming of course that blast radius weapons start measuring distance from the surface of the ship not the center).

BTW, Avalons suck against the frigate....2 racks and not much damage. They clear the turrets ok but I wouldn't want them against a frigate. [/offtopic]
Hmm, maybe you should keep blast radius... but they only explode on impact to a SHIP? If that's possible...
Eldrad, I think you missed one keyword in my post--nearly. Nearly immune. Not completely. Bottom line is a single (or group of 2-3) fighters shouldn't be able to take a frigate. Bombers need a role in the game and making avalons the main frigate killer will help that.
The problem there is the frigate guns, arolte. They need to be more accurate, otherwise you will have fighters laughing while emptying tachs into you, eventually killing you. Heck, BUSSES, could do that to s15 frigs...
w00t 7000+ sectors...... hmmmmmm
i can see it now.....

sounds like the old 'Elite' local and galactic hyperdrive system.
No thargoids pleeeeeze

hey thargoids were awesome.
nothing like being forced out of hyper in the middle of nowhere and seeing 6 or 8 motherships closing on you from all sides.

Well, this raises the question of whether future combat can be completely avoided with the new warp drive system. Don't feel like dying in the middle of a battle? Simple! Activate a warp drive countdown and you'll be out of there in seconds! I don't know... I guess we'll just wait and see how it goes. If it allows for players to escape from combat much easier than now, I'm not too sure I'll enjoy the new system.
