Back when we could turbo-tap (sigh... I miss that), I wrote an autopilot bot that could only fly in a straight line, but could maintain 190m/s.
It flew out 42 million meters from the nearest gate before I wanted the machine back for other stuff.
As far as I know, that's the record. ;-)

Well, I was spaced 195km in s9, just for fun. I was attempting to see if I could find the end of the sector. But don't tell me whether I can or not! I still want to find out for myself! Anyway, after I just passed 194km-ish, the server crashed. Did this have anything to do with me?

YOU KILLED IT!!!
Yes cactus, you have destroyed the world as it we know it, time itself has stopped, there is a glitch in the matrix, and dammit YOU KILLED IT!
Heh, well, sorry.... But hey, this is a test, right? I'm helping! :p
edit: I may have misunderstood your post. My node id is...what? The id assigned to my player entity in the universe?

Extremely doubtful, but the circumstances are noted. Let's see.. it's an internal consistency check that bombed, although it bombed for sector 9.. and.. your node id. Wow.
Well, it probably has more to do with your objects having an extremely low priority for everyone else, being so far away, than the actual fact that your ship is at an extremely large position, and some cleanup isn't being done correctly because nobody wants to even look at you.

Yes. node ids are assigned to each person as they enter a sector; 0 is the 'server', which is why when i used to kill with extreme prejudice it'd say "unknown node 0". The only reason I know it was yours is because I checked the log.
Anyway, yeah. This problem has been around for a while and I'm still trying to track it down, but this datapoint definitely helps a lot. Thanks.
EDIT: nevermind, I just double checked. It was someone else's, although there may have been a secondary effect from you.. not sure yet.
EDIT AGAIN: duh, it's off by one. yes, it was you. whee.

Yay! *pats self on the back* I guess I'll leave the extreme spacing alone for a while, so I don't screw anything up again.

...and now that it's been done and helpful information has been gleaned from it, it isn't necessary to repeat it over and over and over. Unless the devs ask.
[Edit: red cactus beat me to it!]

Alkon, I'm curious, does that mean it would only happen if there were others to see it? So let's say it happened in 0, with no one else around?
Probably not, but I'm not sure. If I knew the answer, I'd probably be able to fix it. My earlier confusion over whose node it was appears to be significant though; something is mixed up.
You could always warp me to 0 to test it><;;
ever been to s0? it's not a very hospitable place.
Sector 0 is the shiznit, man. It's my special place.

I wonder what would happen if 6 or 7 people in a sector agreed to battle it out 195km away from the center, and then have some n00b just stand at the center. Which would get more priority then? Or does the code dynamically see where the most people are packed and assign priorities that way?
Arolte: I am not sure if the fighting players would get priority, because of the various objects clustered around the center of the sectors. In sectors like 5, 7, and 9, it would take an immense number of players out there to offset the priority from the center of the sector to the "boonies". One's best bet for testing your theory/hypothesis would be to take 20 or so people into sector 40 and have one stay at the station and the rest go out in one direction, say towards the planet.
a1k0n, you're the expert, please correct me if I'm wrong.

If a1k0n agrees, then I want to join in! That'd be great!

I have been to 0, alienb, I've also been immune to dev powers in there and had to kill myself to get out.:( (During the weekend's crash)
Hmm? Priorities are all relative. Everyone 195km out sees each other with high priority, and sees the guy in the middle with low priority. Vice versa for the guy in the center.
If a red cactus spaces in the middle of sector 8 and no one is around to see it, does it still make a sound?
sorry, couldn't resist :p
