Sorry I don't believe that pirating people in ion storms has been a successful endeavor by any reasonable definition of the term. There simply aren't enough people.

Your metric of success might be different from their metric of success. They have extorted more than a billion credits with that tactic. I know a billion credits is not much for the top 5 guilds, but for a newcomer guild, that is not bad.

The UDV is pretty powerful. Two large ports and decent maneuverability, it rocks with two megaposi. But as others have said, it is a game of skill and reflex. I remember when the centaur was my favorite ship, two megas and a neut. I was actually not bad in it, though I have not flown one in a long time.
I have only flown the UDV in the test server, but I liked it.
