Its intresting Archon, Try this, create a new charictor with an obscure name, Same basicly nothing in chat like a newbie, then try and do some trade runs in a bus.
Home in each Sector as you move along tradeing the cargo.
When you get killed by Secro or Nutrals, tell them you carnt afford anything.
Then try and leave the station again in your bus, Watch yourself get blown up again.

After 4 or 5 more dead buses. whats the point in exiting the station and playing anymore?
If you were new and played for maybe a few hours, then got grieded into a station, thats hardly fair or resonable treatment.
Now imagine a Vet like Arolite manages to get 2 or 3 players in a station like s10. And they try to leave, yet get blasted over and over trying to leave.
1 hour of holding up people in a station is unresonable.
Killing them over and over just trying to leave the station and sector is unresonable.
Going to s7,s8 s5,s13 s11,s10 to grief Teams newbies untill they leave the game, should get you banned.
Chaseing a newbie back into s1, s2 and s3 just to get a bus kill, should get you booted from the game.

It shouldnt take people to constantly threatern enemys flags to prevent this from happening either, This ruins the game play for the defender and the person spaced just sitting there waiting.
And it costs lin a lot of money to mine up that flag =)

Phoenix_I-"I tend to only pirate one person once a day, unless attacked by this person"

Riight... You have attacked me at least 5 times in one instance. And I wasn't attacking you, until you fired first.

It interests me the way people in this game act a lot like they do in real life. Cheat whenever they can, do whatever they can to shove everyone else under their feet. And when someone pushes them back, they whine and call that person names.

It's not the games fault, it's just bringing out what our society has taught people.

The only thing I think could help agianst this would be a guild/team system, so that convoys can be formed to fend off pirates/greifers.
Dec 15, 2003 DR link
the problem with convoys as such is they aren't profitable... it takes more time waiting for people to come online, setting up the convoy, and flying with the convoy then it's worth. The biggest thing is that people need to be online playing for it to be a success... probably why it wont work till the playerbase gets much bigger (mmorpg size)

Can we please avoid personal comments? It mires the point in a lot of arguing.

i thought this thread was about the treaty not pirates?

'tis...now I'm off to cause more treaty violations...

Skyfox, you probably attacked me. Either that or it was during a cap, or a war in one of the sectors, and I said I only "Pirate" a person once per day. I highly doubt I pirated you 5 times in 1 day.

Phoenix_I:
sircamps idea makes it near impossible to pirate at all, the lower in reputation you go, the less things you can buy, this is very bad, pretty soon we can't buy anything but a bus, which eliminates pirating all together, which is bad. Now, if there were some pirate sectors that pirates could land/dock and buy black market goods, like special ships from nations, but much more expensive, this would discourage a lot of the pirates, but the pirates that really want to be pirates, like me or icarus can actually be pirates.
--------------------------
The second half of your paragraph is exactly what I suggested. Pirate sectors or stations hidden away on the fringes of the galaxy or hidden in the middle of a dense asteroid field (think 10). The goal of a reputation system is to keep pirates in the more dangerous sectors (closer to their home) and make the "core sectors" of the galaxy safer to traders by making it farther away from a pirate's home (and farther away from ammunition and repair). It would only prevent you from landing in, say, 7 and 9, but not necessarily 10. However, if you were an Itani Fighter pilot following orders by preying on Serco transports, you could probably land anywhere, except for NT sectors near Serco space.

For the first part, if a pirate is good enough, they wouldn't have to keep buying things, just to unload cargo...s18 is already sort of an isolated outpost for pirates...maybe they should sell Avalons there...

Well, repairs and ammo, is what I'm thinking...

Pirating is a part of the game, whether people accept it or not. It's fun for the pirate, and it adds a challenge for traders. Can you honestly say that trading for five hours straight without having a single incident or moment of danger would be fun for you? Just about the only thing you'd have left to fear is lagging out and getting bot killed. Wow, how fun!

As far as wars, treaties, and military corporations go, I think Vendetta has a lot of potential for territorial wars. I always find such wars of claiming sectors/stations to be very fun, as a way of sort of testing which nation is more powerful or whatever. As far as missions go, you could also be asked to defend a station/sector for as long as possible or whatever. Maybe even a co-op sector where you defend a station from wave after wave of alien furies coming at you (difficulty becoming progressive with each new wave, as well as being proportional to the number of teammates you have in the sector).

And lastly, having an online sector map that updates itself that shows color-coded charted sectors dominated by whatever nation. That way when a player sees that his/her nation is losing ground, they'll log on and go to where the battle is and help out his/her teammates in order to regain control of the territory etc. Anyway, these are all examples for which treaties and alliances can be made for the roleplaying aspects of Vendetta, as well as providing an alternative to boring old CTF.

Agreed. I got the most thrill from watching Phoenix try and catch my trading prom (and crash into my mines, but that's another story). :)

Pirates are to be implemented. The problem right now is there is no benefits to acting like a "good moral" guy (or girl, in Lin's case). Being a pirate/griefer could get you more money to being a peaceful trader. That has to be changed before true role-playing can start.

I only read the first 15 or so posts, so dont blame me if i repeat anything.

If you're going to do treaties, wait for a1k0n to make a govt system for every nation (plus he ccould make "official" treaties which would make the 2 nations in question unattackable to each other).
As someone in the first 15 posts said: "word of mouth travels slowly" plus there could be fraud of alliances.
At any rate even when/if a1k0n makes a government system it wouldnt be fair for 2 nations to gang rape the other 1 unless there was a 4th nation, plus, you might get pissed when you see 30 people online 20 blue 5 red and 5 gold but what the hell? 13 of those are newbies in busses botting in sector 4 and 3 of the 7 are trading anyway which leaves 2 griefers (simulated example).
