I'm playing two alpha games on Steam regularly. Rust is a bit of a mess at the moment, for instance, but it's hugely popular. There's room for VO, and the added funding will be helpful.
some new graphics, gameplay and other changes we have in development
Oh, of course. How could I have mistaken that detailed explication of forthcoming changes for the normal vague statements of progress of some kind at some future point.

New graphics, steamisms etc.. etc.. That stuff is all nice but it's not what people are historically going to be disappointed with when it comes to VO on steam. Before you go there you really have to sort out an overhaul to your business model. It's not a secret that the current one is unpopular and it's probably the largest single limiting factor to mainstream uptake. We've all read the comments on steam greenlight and most of them are concerning the business model.
On steam you're competing for attention with games that are sometimes completely free with micro-transactions or other games that actually allow you to earn small amounts of steam wallet credit while you play them. These games usually make money through elaborate 'hatconomies' (i.e. selling tradeable cosmetics to a massive player base) and the players are accustomed to that. I don't mean to sound condescending or anything by raising this, just thought it was lacking from the thread.
In short I think the game itself is ready for steam, couldn't come sooner; my only concern is that we address the feedback on the greenlight page in some way or it's essentially asking for a bunch bad reviews on "why this game isn't f2p" etc.. etc..
Having the community bash these people for being stingy or telling them to get a job the way that occurs when they come on 100 will not fly on Steam community.

(Steam people like F2P etc etc)
Yes. I am aware.

I'm not saying you aren't. I just found it odd that the other posters had some odd unsubstantiated theory or opinion about why we aren't ready for steam in terms of gameplay when all the complaints on the greenlight page are about business model.
It's always bugged me that the content in VO was designed for a much higher population than we've really had, extra numbers from steam would really help the game - that's the so-called game-play problem if anything, I don't see any others stopping VO being a successful steam release game.

The content may have been designed for a larger populations, but there clearly are server-side issues that appear to prohibit effective and satisfying experiences for larger populations. At least -- in the same sector, i.e. nationwar, etc.

Captain86: Before a game can be on Steam, it must be "greenlit". Now that that has happened, it is possible for the devs to work with Steam to get VO onto Steam, but it won't happen for at least several months, and probably significantly longer.
Congrats!
OK thanks
what Sub's will you offer on Steam? i know you have 2 types light and the standard and will we be on the same server??
We only have one server, across all platforms and stores and so on. So it will always been the same universe, the same people, regardless of how they get the game.
As for what subs or monetization will be on Steam, that remains to be seen. We're doing some business model experiments already, and I'm meeting with Valve in a couple of weeks to talk to them further. They know what works best for their store, and overall our goal is to find the right blend of features and options to fit the Steam userbase.

Meeting with Valve?
Damn, that just took my optimism up a whole ton. Anyone that brushes shoulders with them seems to print money.

May it be so
