griefers are killing you VO

Yeah, I know it is named "Vendetta" for a reason. But if you want to know why nobody is subscribing past the 8 hour trial, and why players cannot even give away their friend keys ... maybe you should reconsider allowing two or three players to camp, grief, and otherwise ruin the game experience for newbs ... just sayin.

Heh. The flak will fly.

Griefers are a part of every game. In VO, space is dangerous the moment you leave the training sector. One must be prepared for the trouble they may cause in any MMO.

If you went into grey space, you were warned in the training missions that it was dangerous.

If you didn't read the training missions, that's your own fault.

If this was taking place in nation space, then that's a different matter for which many people have many different ideas about how to address.

Really? So explain why griefers are whining about nothing but NPCs to extort. Enjoy playing your nice little game by yourself.

Shoulda paid.

I like how a bunch of people have replied and he says we will playing by ourselves

Playing VO gives you tiger blood.

The first time I was PKed, I had enough time to type in "help! Icarus is killing me!" into chat, was told to "dodge in zig-zag patterns", and died anyway. I think I was in love with the game since then.

It's very difficult for me to be able to tell the difference between someone being unhappy over being killed (in a highly combative game), and some kind of genuine griefing problem that should be alleviated (and is best addressed very specifically on Suggestions).

If this is like "I went into grayspace and then other people killed me", I don't have much to add to what has already been said. But if there's some kind exploitative of game problem, I'm certainly open to discussing it (on Suggestions).

A good suggestion is perhaps not to allow trial accounts to spam the forum with threads about whining and dying. Limit them to a "help" section and the bug forums.

Inc,
You could log all of the player kills, ship types, weapon types, and sectors and have a lot of useful data to look back on when people complain about greifing, camping, unbalanced weapons/loadouts/etc.

At least, that's what I'd do. :)

Raw nerve? Next time you brag about your thousands of newb kills ... listen to the echoes of your d-d-d-Dead s-s-s-Server p-p-p-Population.

Don't let the doorknob (further) stretch your balloon knot as you depart, Vampa. I'm sure we'll all miss you and maybe even send a nice fruit basket. Ta-ta.

The fact that you bring up extortion suggests you're complaining about pirates, not griefers.

Piracy is an important part of the game. It's not just about providing danger, but motivating players to work against each others' interests. Pirates want to rob or extort traders. Traders want to trade. Bounty hunters, mercenaries and anti-pirates want to hunt pirates and/or protect traders for various reasons. Those roles may still need some re-balancing, but playing any of them is not griefing.

We've also recently seen a pirate complaining about getting robbed himself while hauling valuable gear on several occasions. People generally laughed at him and said he had it coming.

Games where there are artificial limitations on PVP may be enjoyable for some, but I find them boring and immersion-breaking. I don't even like capitol friendly-fire protection. I'd replace it with temp KOS and exile to Corvus when the player has no characters at combat 3 or above.

As for Vampa, get good, get help, get even or stick to your home nation space, where the risk of attack in small. This is an adversarial PVP-combat oriented game.

As I fly through the sector of sedina b-8
I take a look at the radar and realize nothin's left
Cause I've been blastin' n laughin' so long
That even phaserlight thinks my mind is gone
But I never crossed a guide that didn't deserve it
Me be treated like a newb, you know that's unheard of.
You better watch how you talkin' and where you flyin'
Or you and your newbies might be lined in space junk
I really hate to camp but I gotta grief
As they explode I see myself in the sunflare smoke, Neeeewb
I'm the kinda G little newbies wanna be like
On my knees in the night, sayin' prayers in the station light.

Been spending most their lives livin' in a griefer's paradise
Been spending most their lives livin' in a griefer's paradise
Keep spending most our lives livin' in a griefer's paradise
Keep spending most our lives livin' in a griefer's paradise

I look at the valkjocks they got me facin'
I can't fly a normal ship, I was raised by the Sercs
I gotta be down with the Red team.
Too much video games got me chasin' dreams
I'ma leveled up fool with pk's on my mind.
I gotta mine in the dock and a gleam in my eye.
I'm a promed out griefer rocket ramming blaster
And my pilots are down so don't arouse my anger, Neeeewb
Death ain't nothin' but a few credits lost anyway
I'm playing vo so you will die, what can I say?
On pk 23 now, but will I live to see pk 24?
The way newbs are whining, I think I know.

Tell me why are newbs so blind to see
That combat is fun for you and me.

Been spending most their lives livin' in a griefer's paradise
Been spending most their lives livin' in a griefer's paradise
Keep spending most our lives livin' in a griefer's paradise
Keep spending most our lives livin' in a griefer's paradise

Proms and the valks, valks and the proms
Ports after ports, armor after armor
Everybody's runnin' but half of them ain't lookin'
What's goin' on with their trident, but I don't know who's nukin'
They say I gotta stop, but no one's here to fight me
If they can't stop whining, how can they beat me?
I guess they can't, I guess they won't
I guess they front, That's why I know their sub is out of time, Neeeewb

Been spending most their lives livin' in a griefer's paradise

The odd thing for me is that people get so upset over PVP, but not PVE.

Every newb ever has, based on suggestions made by the game's early missions themselves assumed that Aputechs are the best thing to go after once collectors get too easy[0]. Every newb ever has been promptly slaughtered upon actually meeting a group of Aputechs. I have never seen anybody ragequit over this.

Make the threat a player in a high-level ship in an area the game makes very clear is infested with pirates and suddenly there is much wailing and gnashing of teeth.

[0] Tycorp Assaults are almost certainly a better choice.

Newb A
Newb A ignores tutorials, Newb A goes to gray space and somehow makes it to a station. Newb A sets home to station. Newb A gets killed everytime he leaves staion...Newb A Rages in forums!
Newb B
Newb B plays through tutorials and actually reads dialogues, Newb B sets home to his faction base. Newb B ventures into gray space nervously and gets blown up. Newb B realizes ships are dirt cheap and laughs. Newb B continues to build up his skills in safer space, meets people who are willing to help complete missions and help with advice, engages in good nature banter in 100, joins guild that fits his personality, pokes fun at Newb A in forum. :D

Actually I don't think it's fair to say that people don't get upset over PvE. What happens is they are less likely to complain because the perception is that if you die to a robot then it's most definitely your mistake.

It is a generalization, I grant you, but complaining about getting killed by a pirate tends to be an attempt to try get back at the pirate or to make them feel inferior to try and grant some satisfaction for the person who has died. I accept this is not the only reason, but it is a common reaction. Often they are just venting frustration which is perfectly acceptable.

What isn't acceptable is assigning blame, insulting, berating or otherwise belittling the attacker outside the context of the game. It's also the case that we should ignore this kind of rubbish on the forums for the simple reason that it's nobody's fault except Vampa's for complaining about losing a perfectly winnable game.

He lost round 1 of the game, instead of learning from his mistake for round 2 he's having a good old cry about it.

Maybe he sticks around for Round 2, maybe he ends up being a decent player one day or maybe he ends up being the reason my Star Citizen account gets banned. But I'll always have VO to come back to because the developers here are intelligent people that aren't willing to bow to this kind of petty complaining.

And that's worth way more than any of your Report-a-player systems or other game rubbish that is frankly designed for children.

Tourias! That was awesome!

Read that imagining a lot of VO PvP and other scenes, the original song playing, and your composition displayed on subs!
