Hopping turrets and launching from your own ship are a higher priority than shields.

When you get the planets thing done, I'd like to be able to burn up in the atmosphere in full HD resolution and make a nice sonic boom as my ship explodes over Chelyabinsk in a nice procedural poof of smoke. I would then like for street vendors to find and sell parts of LeberMac's ship as "ACTUAL UFO" debris widgets, available in-system for a nominal fee. These widgets will be required for building the shield generators on the Voltron MegaCapship.
I should go post in suggestions.

its a joke, I only say it because people like spence rush in and go 'NOT SHIELDS, NOT SHIELDS! Don't listen to TRS, TRS stop whining about shields, whats with you and shields, seriously shields are crap!!!'
Oh and spence, fix your stats page by the way.
But it should be said that shields are very important for basic usability, mainly for their use in PvE because unshielded tridents can't stand up to single bots for very long (and the red flashing is so irritating)
love to be able to farm SSS with tridents for instance to hold the drops and provide repairs, but they can't stand up to arklans - or take them to a levi sector, except you always get a prosus assault on you and nobody bothers to get rid of it.
That said, shields by themselves without other changes to tridents would be very silly and not very useful. Shields has now become a blanket term for all trident improvements, A sharing system is probably the most important overall addition.

And a phone company that will murder your boss.

Cool improvement! Already imagining how amazing it will look in my 40" TV, drifting in orbit of planets...
Since we're dreaming, have you ever considered to make planets, stations and roid groups "orbit" around its star, or stars, periodically jumping between sectors, instead of the static sector/location?
Backstory is that jump points 'grid' is not static, but somehow is affected by those large masses, and you always jump in same relative position to those bodies... so maps become dynamic and relative position of everything changes day to day... One day sector X99 is empty, next day it has a planet, then empty for another N days...
+1 CS... and backport own turrets usage from cappies to small ships with turrets also, same rules.

.... The big planet in the window thing might be attractive to me if Gravity was involved...
And then they would need to handle pressure and heat build up etc
Trident sharing is far more important then damn sheilds...
Focus guys - you really need to work on that shiney ball syndrome.....

Oh for fucks sake... just fix the damned faction system! Everything else, is secondary.
How many ways and times will be sufficient to explain their actions, or are you listening?
People don't notice faction inequalities until they are well invested in the game. People notice graphics on first login. While redoing faction stuff is good, it doesn't offer the same immediate return on investment.

I'm hoping you aren't talking about me. Some people (elsewhere) have honestly been giving me crap about updating the planets, because apparently they think our graphics guy would be equally good at re-doing the economy or something.

As long time players, the graphics mean very little to us because of the amount we have invested in the game. But I can 100% understand why a graphics update would be beneficial for the game all around. New players are put off by it, I have a hard time understanding why, but it is a fact. so it makes sense to update the graphics to get people to give the game a chance. I get the impression people won't even try it after reading comments here and there across the web.
This is just my opinion but, it may be wise to treat potential players as if they were the most shallow people on the planet. People who will not even bother with the game over the tiniest weirdest thing visually and in terms of user interface and fickle with their money. And again, my opinion only so don't be upset with me I'm not criticizing you guys (the devs) or trying to tell you how to do your job. But I would do a graphics update, then update the tutorial missions - maybe work out a way to use volunteers for voice overs (i've offered and sent a recording to momerath before). Then maybe improve the faction. Basically as much as the first experience stuff as you can.
As someone who has been around in this game for nearly a decade it isn't going to kill me to wait any longer for some end game stuff. The people like me who been around forever really do believe in this game, otherwise we would have gone on to something else. We're pretty hooked.

Devs would get a better return on investment producing content updates for the established playerbase if they had some way to monetize it properly - thats the shift in business model that needs to occur.
Subs are good because they are egalitarian, but that also means that the devs are not financially rewarded for building content for the established playerbase any more than they are for new players.
I'd love to see things the other way around, where we are monetizing the existing playerbase is more profitable to fund gameplay improvements that reignite the interest of players and THEN re-investing in the new player experience.

Hey don't underestimate Curt! I'm sure aside from the programming skills required, if he played the game regularly it would become pretty apparent as to whats wrong with the economy!

You really want to save your game? Focus. Stop telling people shit you're going to do in 2014, stop telling people ANYTHING, because you just end up endlessly explaining why it's still not done. Just SHUT THE FUCK UP AND DEVELOP FOR ONCE. See where that takes you.
Every time you listen to the community (of idiots) you go down a pointless rabbit hole (kickstarter) and waste another month failing to snatch the latest shiny object. PLEASE STOP. Shut up and build your game, and don't visit the forum again until 2.0

I don't have enough money to just build the game. I never have. That's why.. everything.
Although time will tell, from here the Kickstarter has been great, even if it fails. The upswing in subscriptions, however temporary, gives me a little extra room to stretch and try out something else to bring in funds.. to build the game.
Very little would make me happier than the opportunity to just build the game.

On that note, Incarnate, I wrote this post: http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/27150#330101
I think we're on the same page here, but in any case i'd be interested in your reaction.

I'd like to give my POV of these planetary updates.
But 1st, Inc, I love reading your posts about the goals you all have in mind to the future of this game. And it's comforting to know that you will keep these goals, even if the KS does not reach it's main goals.
And don't bother with all these "I WANT IT ALL, I WANT IT NOW" posts... they are, mostly, useless rants.
Back on topic, I didn't noticed by myself that those planets had a movement. Checked it only after reading about at the KS update. Then, started looking at them, and... they are awesome, as they are now. If they get even better, hope you guys make them way much bigger, to occupy much more background space.
I agree with Touriaus about the need to give the best 1st impression as possible to new users. Not just the graphics, but early missions (tutorial) experience, and the stations interface. I bet these are some crucial points that reduces the number of subs.

How to kill your own game by Guild Software
Step 1: Make a cool game
Step 2: Break pretty much everything in game by "fixing" it (Economy, Stations, Piracy, etc etc)
Step 3: Make currency worthless
Step 4: Make guilds unimportant and unable to properly operate
Step 5: Spend all your time making your game compatible for the 8,000 crappy tablet devices that barely have users as it is.
Step 6: Offer the industry's least amount of free introductory game time.
Step 7: Keep the same moderators that haven't been active in decades. You know the ones who could potentially start ingame events to keep people interested (cap ship battles)
Step 8: Focus on meaningless updates that add no content to the game (i.e. this one, the last one, etc. Although the Lite sub model is a good idea and needs to be expanded to pc but again no content).
Step 9: Start a Kickstarter campaign with a goal that is unreachable without a few rich players contributing tens of thousands of dollars at the last minute.
Step 10: ????
Step: 11: Profit? Probably not.
The people who play this game at are the ones who add the most content to it. You owe people like Mecha, TRS, Ecka, CS, Conflict Diamond, etc because without them this universe would be conflict free...
Good luck in the future GS, I was really rooting for you.

This thread could do with about 30% less vitriol.
Vendetta is doing better than it has in years; Incarnate indicated as much. Just because you believe something to be true, that doesn't make it true. Some things that were perceived as good (exploits) ended up getting fixed (made broken) for the sake of the greater good. If you have a specific suggestion about a certain area of gameplay, go make it in the suggestions forum. This thread is about graphical updates related to the Kickstarter campaign.
