Phaserlight your logic is flawed or just crafty- I don't subscribe but keep in touch with others. Deneb stats tell a part of the story as well as well as the lack of transparency of the current number of members on line. It's you who underestimate what I already know, so don't even try it. Your not fooling anyone.
I'm just waiting that's all. You can count me in as a future subscriber when and if the player activity
If time and money is an issue then there are solutions to do something outside of the scope of simply throwing money at the problem.
Options are available that may not be exactly what people want or even what the owners want.
But if the underlying problem is customers and profits for growth to be able to implement all their VO ideas, then a temporary new direction may be in order.
Or perhaps another completely separate alt VO parallel to the current VO that could fund the current VO ideas.
My suggestions for growth was an attempt to suggest something that would attract new players to the current VO that has similar appeal to the already successful pattern of free to play games.
However, if there is no desire to combine those topics due to the negative trade offs mentioned, why not implement a completely separate alt VO to fund the current VO pool of ideas ?
Free to play sectors of capture the flag battles or something similar to what WOT does for capture the flag
Again the ideas are broad but raising money won't happen on it's own unless you borrow it, venture capital or raise it via customers.
Capture the flag in space would be cool too. If you have not played WOT try it to get some ideas.
Or take the time to try some other free games out there just to see how they work and listen to people in chat to learn why it works and how much money these people are spending. It's really an amazing trend.
Something like these successful models could be used to fund the current VO ideas or combine a few features of those with the current VO in some way.
My intention was to help with my experience in getting things done for little or next to nothing; and so that I might be able to enjoy the game myself someday.
I got high hopes anyhow

Why don't you wait in silence and stop posting text walls? You are not helping the game by advocating degrading it on so many forum topics. Go away.
Now I'll expect you'll post a text wall on how you "help the game, not degrade it, because I know best and have to tell everyone all about ways to make their stuff better."
Your "intentions" appear to me personally as someone that wants a free game and thinks he knows better than game devs themselves how to improve the size of a playerbase.

You sound foolish
Did you even read the posts ?
I thank you for your opinion and expectations regardless of how very wrong they are.
I would rather find out your opinion on an eta of higher number of player activity to warrant further subscription.
I don't need free games, money, job blah blah blah and any other stupid belittling comments that are being thrown around by posters.
These walls are your doing and people like you, not mine. Responding to this none sense takes more time then posting on the actual topic of lack of player activity.
Simplified version
Think AOL free 30,60,90 day free trial.
If you don't have the budget for advertising then work with what you got for growth that doesn't require heavy additional programming and funding for advertising.
For me it's just a game. I don't support any cause or company because their nice guys and work hard etc.
You got a space MMORG with a lot players I'm in. You got a space MMORPG with little or no players I'm out plain and simple.
No reason to be all in the drama over it. It's just a game take it or leave it.
My suggestions were in hope that I might someday enjoy the game again with a lot of players and nothing more.
For now it's just not happening.

That's exactly the point of all this.
I would now like to apply that statement to politicians who seem to think they know what it takes for small businesses to create jobs as well.
Please refer to Ecka's law of small business economics for further explaination

This game clearly has a good backing with it's current spread of loyal players. Being new I have noticed that the game is rather quiet, I am currently playing on android and expected to see, like other android MMO's a mass of people scampering around the start location all saying hi etc. but there wasn't much going on.
I personally think that the game needs more players, the move to Android platform was an excellent idea but the VO presence on google play seems rather limited, I searched for an EVE like game and could only find some lame ones, problem being that it wasn't "compatible" with my phone, but side install and it worked... might be worth getting this to as many devices as possible.
Another problem is that the majority of people don't want to pay for an application and certainly don't want to pay a monthly subscription, I know that other players will complain but I honestly think that the best idea would be to use in game advertising to drive a free version for player who don't want to have to pay. Every space station has a set of billboards so why no use these for advertising. Loading screens could have small adverts etc.
As I said some if not most will disagree but those people can continue to pay the subscription without adds.
No need for more content just more players, more players and the content will pretty much create itself. Just by the way Im not knocking any efforts to date, i am amazed at how good this game is, yesterday I was playing on my mobile with 3 bars of g!?!?! Amazing!!!! I just find it hard to think of any friends I could introduce who would be happy to pay the subscription :(

Spotfist: make sure they know about the 2-week friend key. Every subscribed user gets 1 new one per month, up to 5 total. At the end of 2 weeks, your friends will be wanting their own subscription. If they ask on channel 1 they might find someone willing to give a key away.
Introducing real world ads in game would be an immersion-breaker for me. Can you imagine flying outside a station and seeing an ad for Eve online?
Also, welcome.

Phaser... yes I can, it would be great. Assuming that space billboards are destructible.
But thats only because you guys have played it already and want a game like that, hence you would pay the subscription. Peoplw who are not too fussed would go thw advert route, once they get hooked they may decide to change.
I dont see how adverts would be a deal breaker, i think google play proves that most players are of a casual caliber, thats the audience you want to capture... Thats what i would do to increase numbers any way.

There's not much interest in advertising within a small independent game - and certainly not enough to make the coding worthwhile.
No dice ryan, they're holograms.
In-game advertisement is bad. For a number of reasons. My number one reason is that it absolutely destroys the ability to get lost and absorbed in the game (f*** immersion; that can only happen if you can forget that outside world exists; make it so the player gets lost in your game, then worry about tricking them into thinking they're in some other world.).

Advertisers dont have to be interested in the game, just use adsense from google...
Like i said, i personaly dont give two bits if there are adverts or not, i dont have a pc to play games on only xbox and my phone, if we were talking about the xbox i migjt be more so inclined to agree with you guys but because im playing on my phone it would be just like any other android game, almost every game has adverts if its for free bit there is an option to remove, you guys remove but many people like myself would rather play for free.
All down to personal taste really, only bonus os it attracka more people to the game, many of which cannot afford tp pay.

Interesting ideas.
There should be ships/weapons you can only get after your character has been active for 6 months, 9 months, 12 months. Or tie them to much higher levels.
PROM 12/12/13/-/-
Valk X-1 11/12/12/-/-
etc...

There shouls be a faaar larger number of ships available for purchase, is there a game limit as to how many can be playable? I have only been playing a few days and alreasy i feel like i have seen most of whats to offer.
There does seem to be a running theme going in almost all of the threads on here and that is the lack of numbers. This certainly needs sorting.
I would say the economy needs beefing up as well, doesnt seem to be enough our there to force players into too much ezploration, perhaps players could hire out ships from other players and aplit profits? It just seems odd that i have almost a million credits in the bank but not enough experiance to buy a 60k ship?!
Are there any physical limits to the economy or is it just lack of funding / time?
I honestly cant believe that one of the first cross platform games is so niche, its a crying shame really :-(

You haven't seen it all after playing for a couple days, trust me on this one. I have over 50 days of continuous playtime logged, and I feel like I am still learning new PvP tactics, exploring new hidden niches of the game, and watching the community and the game itself grow and evolve.
Ships are relatively inexpensive because you will be going through a lot of them in PvP and on some of the more difficult missions. When using higher tier ships, I find it's easy to burn a million credits in a single drawn out battle not only from re-purchasing ships but from repair costs also. Some of the more expensive player-manufactured items have been valued at hundreds of millions of credits. Right now, items are bartered between players over chat channels, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a more sophisticated system later on.
I put up a couple trade tutorial videos (flawed as they may be) on YouTube; if you want to learn more about the dynamic economy, try searching for "vendetta online trade tutorial" on YouTube.

Well player numbers is a different subject all together
Phaserlight is right about the economy. You need to get your levels up to be able to purchase the other equipment, but it's not that expensive for this equipment anyhow.
You can spend a lot on other things that players will sell you that will be expensive such as Samo Flange for Trident build, Avalons,Gauss III's , other Trident components.
I actually paid 10million for my samo flange, and 10million a day for trident rental for hauling a bunch of sss(synthetic silksteal) and fcp's etc. and more. Then ended up giving all the crap away to others for a different cause.
I am seriously considering paying for 20 subscriptions about $200 per month just so I can re-sub and have people to play with when I login.
Maybe I should consider giving away $10 subscriptions to people for signing up with some sort of pay to click scheme so they could earn back some of the $10 that I gave away.
Anything would be good that attracts players that’s all I know.
But there is no mechanical part that would allow me to manage their account or payment. That another whole subject that I don't know a solution even if I paid for their account. I would have to get a pre-paid vista just for each new subscriber and manage their account for them somehow.
Not sure if that would work either.
Oh well, I'll be dreaming of a VO with sectors overloaded that you have to wait in line before you can jump to the next sector LOL
Wouldn't that be cool.

No not really C86, infact that would suck. Imagine waiting 5 mins to spawn just to be shot dead by me? The very fact that you are posting on these forums shows that you care, just like tumblemonster cares.
Yes, we all think it's a great game that could use more players, but the devs still need time before that can happen, going f2p with this limited content might bring in an influx of new players at first, but would they stay around long term? After being a f2p (thats essentially what alpha test was) player, I am not so sure.
The way VO works, that model just does not fit the game at all. I'd prefer more incentive to subscribe right now, but that is only because money is a bit tight. The second I have a buck to spend I'll throw it guilds way. It really isn't that high a subscribtion fee to worry about, even for a casual player such as myself.

Captain86... I only ask out of general human curiosity but, have you ever considered the possibility that you may be not only completely brain dead... but, also a complete moron who is ignorant about nearly everything?
Though to be fair, yes... more ships would be great.
