I think we're all too lazy to bother - plus, the idea of blasting noobs and causing them to rage-quit by flinging their overpriced tablet at a wall is very appealing. Far be it from me to drive them away before I get a chance at that.

Well, now everyone can also behold me babbling about the game at E3 last year, as NVIDIA posted this video today:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93vib0PTk1Y

Note: they re-recorded several segments, and then ended up stringing them together, so I end up sounding a bit repetitive. It was also the end of the last day of the show and I was pretty tired.

Inc., do not ever wear a crew-necked shirt/sweater with a black blazer again. I know you're a Wisconsin computer game designer and all, but still, there are limits man!

That said, nice job - I was having dinner at a bar in the city tonight and boom, there's an ad with VO up on the tvs, people are discussing the game, etc.

I like the weapon sound effects from the ad better than those in the game. Can you get them to give you those?

I think the ad is definately awesome.

I hope this helps VO to get more audience... Because if that won't, i don't know what will.

A lot of people have been talking about the Xoom in general and this commercial is getting really heavy airplay.

Devs, I mean this in the most supportive and positive way possible, but you need to release the Android version ASAP to take advantage of this buzz and this commercial. People are going to see that commercial, see that awesome-looking game, buy the Xoom, try to play the game, see it doesn't exist yet for Android, and move on.

Quickly copy the sound effects from the commercial and release the Android version like today. Can't you put a download link up on the website at least, even if the marketplace thing is out of your control?

I saw this on TV watching the FOX channel last night. Great job, devs.

@Strat: Inc has said that they're waiting to release the Android client until they have capship stations in so that Android users don't have to download a many-megabyte update.

Can we get the ship thing from the add? Looks like a great Itani replacement for the Serco vulture. If, that is, you can get the rights from Verizon :P

We don't want them to have to download a big update, and we really don't want our update servers to buckle under the load. But that's far from the only thing we're working to have as part of the first release.

Among other things, Android apps (for all practical purposes) must have a Java component, which has to be updated by different means than our other platforms or the C++/Lua part of the game on Android. In fact, the Java has to be updated differently depending on whether their device allows side-loading (installation from random websites) or not. I'm almost certain that the Xoom does not, and we need the app to be in the market anyway, for bandwidth and discoverability reasons. All that boils down to a lot of polish and testing of the Java components, since a bug there could result in the need for reinstallation. We didn't leave it to the last minute, either; requirements change, and there's more we'd like to do than we could possibly have done in the time we've had.

Anyway, we're burning the midnight oil (yes, at noon), and will release just as soon as it's sane to do so.

Hint: BitTorrent-based update mechanism ?

Well, but i guess it's far too late for that. Anyway, you can always think of either bundling some basic bittorrent client or other Android app for that in the future.

BTW,
I sincerely hope that this android version will be a great success.

PoL: Bittorrent is far from universally usable, given ISPs' penchant for blocking or throttling it. More importantly, mobile users do not expect their games to be using their limited transfer allotment to serve updates to others.

Just saw the ad and came running back to say congrats! I like the new look of the website as well, have not been back for a while.

I went and posted my awesome review on Pocket Gamer. I'd imagine the Android port takes off like in the commercial.

I just got the xoom and it does allow for third party installation just like the phones. So, I assume that you can just provide the apk file and anyone can Install it.

I can't wait for the official release. Keep up the great work.
