As a player of many space shooters, most of them having multi-player in some way, shape or form, I was pleasantly surprised when I found out Vendetta Online was going to have Capital Ships. Is there any ETA of when one of the ships will be flyable?
I know the Trident, which seems like a corvette to me, is/was going to be released in the hands of the players, but when is this due?
I'm tired of EVE's lack of skill based game-play and I don't like the fact that JGE and BP won't have flyable capital ships.

Soon™
In the past two months, many new missions have been added relating to manufacturing capital ship components; hull plates, computers, etc. I believe the devs' goal is to have them implemented before the new year.
implemented before the new year
Fat chance.
Fat chance.
C'mon, lelector... surely before the new year! But what year?
Remember Tridents aren't Flagships with tactical centers. It is simply a larger and slower moth with shields. And unarmed when operated by a single player.
The key system is already implemented, so shared ownership is already possible. Few roadblocks left. I really believe we are closer to fly Tridents than we never been...

Tridents have a 5th forward-facing cannon that's not a controllable turret, so they wouldn't be completely unarmed with a solo pilot.
I forget how many years ago it was that I argued, at length and rather forcefully, in favor of the Devs giving us tridents and letting us decide whether they were too sloppy to bother with or not.
Don't hold your breath. GS has Android users to snare, a website to contract out, and nooblet content to "polish" (polish being a pretty relative term) . . . content for those of us who actually come back month after month is not, as far as years of experience indicates, their first, second, or even third, priority.
Though we did get stations, which are pretty cool.

Lecter: I didn't ignore that. We just hadn't solved all the other problems, like the fact that turrets could not be attached to player-controlled ships. And shields didn't work on player-controlled ships. And that you couldn't dock with player-controlled capships. And lots of other things people associate with capships. So, yes, we could have released a ship that can't dock with any stations, and is a giant lumbering sitting duck. It would have looked neat and had no other value.
I thought it would be better to wait until we fixed that stuff.
The accusation that our priority on capships should have been higher may be fair. But, we did do station conquest and the key system as a stepping stone to get to capships (station conquest doesn't have any of the aforementioned issues, but we needed to solve a bunch of related problems).
Anyway, going back to Equanimizer's original question, the release of the first user-ownable capship does not have a hard date, but I am aiming for sooner rather than later. This calendar year would be nice, but is pretty uncertain. Sometime between now and the end of January is probably more realistic.

Which you told us at the time, and to which we said 'meh, we'll work around it.' Though in the highly unlikely event I can buy a trident by the end of Jan. 2011, I'll buy another 2 yrs worth of VO.

You guys work around a lot of things, which is great, but this would have been a challenge. I mean, you were asking for a ship that is difficult to fly, cannot dock with stations, cannot trade, cannot fight, cannot mine, cannot be docked with, and has no defensive capabilities whatsoever. It would have been completely symbolic. And we would have had to rig some way to even spawn it in the universe.
The problem when we release really half-assed stuff like that, based on player demand, is that once people are confronted with how significant the issues really are, they want solutions to the problems. And then we're back in the position of really needing a bunch of work to re-architect how we handle large ships anyway.
ANYhoo, I am currently aiming for a "minimum development" trajectory on getting capships into the game, so that it does have a chance of happening more quickly. So it will still be stripped down, but hopefully not as much as the above.

Face it Dr. L, your enthralled here like the rest of us with no hope of escape and only a faint glimmer of Soon(tm) You'll buy your two years regardless, just like the rest of us. Choice has never been an option. :p

I haven't bothered to log in for ages, Stiff Fluffer, because it's boring as Hell and I'm busy working/actually getting out and doing stuff. I can definitely survive without VO in my life at this point; though apparently I'm still paid through Oct. 2011, so I guess Inc. has a while yet :P
Oh OK thanks Incarnate.
I played the trial and stopped playing once I realized Capital ships weren't in-game. I'm the type of player that doesn't like flying a Fighter because I've never been good at Freespace 2/Wingcommander, I'm much better at strategic maneuvering...
But I'll be sure to check it out as soon as they come in.

OK, but what is everything taking so long to do in this game ? I mean you had like 5 years to create some signifficant changes that would bring new people to the game but you didn't.
From programmer's point of view, it seems to me that one of 3 things is happening:
1) Code base of VO so hard to maintain & change, that creating any signifficant changes requires tremendous amount of work.
[OR]
2) You are too bored with the code - it has become such a boring piece of crap, that you just can't find incentives to work on it.
[OR]
3) You have been lazy bastards for the last 5 years laying down on couches, watching as numbers on your bank accounts increases and drinking a lot of beer.
I find 3) highly unlikely, but un case of 1) or 2), you seriously need to do one of two things:
a) Find a large sponsor who will hire like 10 C/C++ programmers and help You speed up things - perhaps you (existing programmers) could work on modularising and refactorising the code so it becomes pleasant to work with, and they will add new features to the game
[OR]
b) Consider making the game Open Source. Of course you won't earn as much, but at least players will be more satisfied with faster implementation of cool things.
Indie-style-developed games can also earn cash - just look at Minecraft ( http://www.minecraft.net ): 700.000 purchases times 10 euros equals about 7.000.000 euros ?
If you do a proper advertising campaign on Youtube, Twitter & Facebook, people may respond with giving you more cash in donations than you're earning now.
Also, there are cheap dedicated hostings in Europe with full duplex 100Mbit, 4 Xeon cores & 8Gigs of RAM for about 100 EUROS a month (i know because I'm using one), so it shouldn't be really expensive to run game servers. Bah, once you opensource the game, a lot of people will probably happily host it & maintain the servers for free.

I generally mean guys that you have to do something, because it is going slow as hell with anything in here.
I have been reading the site waiting for any significant changes for the last 6 months. And guess what ? Nothing.

Another option :
c) If you live within the EU, then you can probably apply for a subsidy to develop the buisness. They can even give you 1.000.000 Euros if you argue your case well & make a very good buisness plan.

4) the game HAS change alot, just not how a particular user wanted/requested and he will choose to attack the devs whatever way he can for it.
Seriously dude, the game has changed alot in JUST the last 6 months. Maybe you should consider that VO is NEVER gonna be the game YOU want and move on with your pathetic life PoL, not sure what kind of change you're looking for but I doubt many here would play the game as you want to see it changed.
So to wrap that up STFU and GTFO and don't come back. Have a good day :)

...but 98% of changes has been cosmetic.

I reconciled that this game will never become what i want a long time ago. Now I'm just killing time since i don't have anything better to do at the moment.
If I cared, i would still have 30-posts long discussions with trolls in here as I used to back few months ago.

Oh sure, fuck you too, explore your anus with retractable batons and have fun with it.

Props to drazed. the game has changed a ridiculous amount in the last year.
Capships are NOT going to be this awesome exciting thing and should not be what you are all hung up on. they effing suck to fly
TGFT and ORE will be the only ones who like them
The game has become so much more playable besides just hanging out in b8 in the last year. thats why it almost seems like it takes the newbs over a month or two to end up down there. they're busy!
I am sure capships are coming, or build able bases or something cause I doubt all this really annoying to build stuff at the stations that has been getting added bi weekly is a bunch of crap, it is leading up to something.

Indeed it is: disappointment.

Actually tractor beams & construction skill the way i proposed would be much more fun than capships, but since everybody here thinks I'm a stupid fucking idiot and i should GTFO anyway, I no longer care to propose or speak about them.
