new roid look FTW!
The reflections, they are fake!
Ohh nice!
All we need now is frosty the snowman to fly across the screen.
Please report bugs on the Bugs Forum.
The new ice should be visible to most people who have Shader 2.0 capable hardware (various cases, like crummy Intel chips, notwithstanding). To anyone who can't see the new refracting ice, a still-improved see-through version of the old ice is still visible.
FYI, the ice actually refracting the contents within.. you're basically seeing "into" the given crystal or ice roid, the shifting patterns are from the refraction. The ice is not actually reflective, although a certain rendering-artifact byproduct of the refraction method does make it appear that way (for now).
I recommend Sedina D14 for checking it out (the huge chunks, off away from the station).

Shouldn't the ship reflections be flipped? I don't think you're supposed to see the Vulture's cockpit. :p
the universe was upside down, now it's inverted?
Looks great up close, but looks terrible from a distance. I guess you guys disable this pretty quickly with distance...

sweet, bout freekin time :)

...crashes after update. can't even get into game.
/me curses his intel GMA 945 card... AGAIN.
back to editing my config.ini by hand.

Breazle, is that what happened when you switched from dx9 to opengl mode? or vice versa?
Whatever he did, the effect looks neon-awesome, even if it is inaccurate.
I think he speaks of the Badges he has earned. ; )
This happens when viewing sharp edges of the ice asteroids at angles like this:

Here's another example:

The dark grey stuff looks a little odd, don't you think? It moves when I move

It looks very "watery", as if painted, when viewed at medium distances. Plus it's a little hard to make out the front edges, as the back faces and edges are pretty much the only thing being shown:

In my opinion the 'jagged fuzziness' effect produced by the grey stuff is a little overdone:

Overall though, it looks really awesome up close. It feels so much more... lifelike, than the previous iteration of ice asteroids. :)

I'm experiencing a LOT of lag whenever I look at roid fields, even normal ones without iceroids. It's sufficient that I can't fight much at all. It wasn't doing this before; could you please look into it?
shlimazel,
Try changing the Shaders version to something lower than what it's currently set to. If that fails, turn shaders off.

yep went from directx to opengl to see if its any better, trying to switch back to directx vo crashed and rebooted into directx, so i left it like that. The green was cool though, it was only for close up roids, far roids were white.
Directx9 is fine though so i dont have a problem just thought i'd show you

the ice looks very pretty on my EEE :D Not really relective(refractive?) but very translucent, much more so (and much much better) then I expected :D
In fact, I think I prefer the look of the new ice on my EEE then I do on my gaming PC :p
EDIT: I was gonna post a screenshot, but it doesn't do it justice, the ice looks alot more transparent (on the eee) when actually in motion, guess this is much like the shader-capable version being alot nicer while in motion... anyhow, after looking at the new ice some more I think I like both versions... The only problem I have with it (the shader-capable one, the eee does not exibit this problem) is the way colors merge (light->dark/dark->light) looks to pixilated, or too un-natural, or somethings... I can't really figure out what I don't like about it, but there is something, seems it is less of an issue after seeing it for a while though (maybe it's just I was use to the old one? lol). Anyhow, looks great on my EEE, and looks great (aside some minor nit-picks) on my gaming PC :D I like the new ice.
