We need a cool down time for buying special ships from s18, or
*hint hint*
a mission that lets you buy one or two. (mission would take time to do so you can't just /explode)

missions in 3.3 would let you buy Furies and whats not, it is not panacea for the problem we have here.
some stations do, should and will have different ships/weapons/cargo that you can purchase.
why should ALL stations let you home in them? this is silly, think about it. maybe all homes are taken? maybe they don't serve your kind here? maybe this station is not suitable for homes?

You don't need to go in that hole. Just use i button!
Arolte: no - preventing people from setting home in s18 isn't a good idea, for two reasons:
a) There's already a huge penalty for homing in s18 - you have to go quite a way to be back (wherever you where). 18 -11 is more than 13 kms, not counting getting out of s11
b) Because of a), it's a good tactic killing people who are homed in s18 first in every fight - they are out of the battle for quite some time, getting back :-)
So - it's not necessary forbidding people to set home in s18 - you can easily exploit their weakness :-)

Arolte, if you don't think Vendetta has a challenge, quit and go play something else.
Don't try to speak for everyone on what's a challenge and what isn't.
Disabling the home button in s18 is extremely stupid.

heh heh, /me actually had the same thought as Arolte. I can't help but notice that since the s17 bots were uberfied everyone seems to be setting home in s18. Getting there the first time was hard enough, but once you're homed it's cake. Also I think people would use the special ships more sparingly if they had to outrun the s17 bots every time to get one. (although as things stand this would give a *huge* advantage to blue since they can buy the valk in their home sector).
/me dons his fire-retardent suit....."umm, I like homing in s18"
Arolte, I know I'm outnumbered. I'm surprised you're not HAPPY at what I'm saying, because you'd get your wish about people saying "fsck it" about using a special ship.
Ohwell...I suppose I'll sit back, wait, and if the devs follow this stupid idea, I'll laugh my ass off at the resulting complaints. If I'm wrong, so be it...I'll live with that - but I have the feeling I won't be too wrong. You people are too predictable.

The bots in S17 just hate me. It took me 300,000c to get there last night. Whistler would go and kill them over and over and over, wingmen, leaders, whatever, and they'd just cluster outside the station and keep following me, shooting. Not sure what it is though.
Learn to zigzag while boosting. It's an easy way to shake the bots off your tail. Getting them up against asteroids also gives you an easy 1000m distance. Trust me, it's not as hard as it seems. Once you know the way the AI works, you can easily break their minds.
S17 is easy.
Heh, I would, but I have to recharge my battery in open space.
Ku Genin was unnaturally popular in 17. I could barely get their attention in there, despite the fact that I was blowing them up all over the place. They would wait for him outside the station and completely disregard me when I came out. Even when he left the sector they didn't love me the way they loved Ku.
ow - come on...
Lets all just *whiiiiine*, instead of actually learn the tricks of getting there. Or maybe even better - make vendetta: 1 sector, 1 bot (with an IQ looking like a potatos') 1 opponent (who can get kicked if you dont like him) and 1 super bus. Yeah - and make the opponent have a handicap too =D
Listen up here... The homing in 18 should to be removed - along with 17. It is - "by story" - alien sectors, people shouldn't be able to home there. Yes, it would cause 18 to become somewhat empty - but is it at all a sector that should be flooded? I don't think so. What about a person - finally figuring out the trick of getting there - and then have to deal with a pirate insta-respawn pirate? I know there's alot of people that would like to have to possibility of maybe being able to get there *before* the pirate - when the pirate is killed and would have to get out there first...
This whole discussion affects usage of special ships and trading paths in some major ways - and the point now is to find out how the devs are going to handle this issue, so that it will balance the game in the appropiate directions. My thought's on this about homing in 17 and 18. Is that, as Arolte said, one only have problems going out there - once. Filling up a sector (eg s9) with valks, prommies or marauders takes no time at all - when homed in 18. Same with trading, making 245k (give or take) in a jiffy - and b00m, back to fo the run again... I think that by forcing more "needed travelling" it would balance the game more towards rpg than - eerh - spacequake...

I love you BusMaster!
Tru that Busmaster, but I still think the sector is too hard to find. I don't mind the absurd bots, it's just that I can never find the damn place when I am going fast enough to avoid the bots.
Great post, Bus. Booya!
Yeah, I agree with Bus; the bots are cool and it should be hard to find. BUT, if this is to take place in the future, shouldn't you be able to have the computer update the location of the jump points? Maybe if you find it once, then it is saved in your navigation computer for that specific character for the rest of time?
Yes, I have been requesting that for a while. Especially once the universe starts to get really big, explorers can find sectors, save their map data and sell it to others for profit.
