Hey, I recently started playing Vendetta cause i was getting bored of WOW and i'm loving it. I saw on some website about vendetta something about different proffesions like pirating and trading. I enjoy pvp and any sort of fighting and was wondering what i should do to pursue the appropriate profession. Pirating seemed cool but i dont want to be hated by all the factions.
thanks

Thats like saying - "I love to murder and steal, but dont wanna go to jail."

Piracy has its cost.

Well, is there a combat profession that is legal?

And are there pirate factions with which i would not become KOS? I dont know much about pirating so if someone could explain so i dont start and then realize that it sucks.

No. All pirate factions will gain you KOS with at least the trade guilds and the vipers.

If you like fighting, use an Itani or Serco character and join a military guild.

if you want to become a pirate, join CLM or THC and be prepared to join us in the dark side. Piracy is sometimes fun if the traders tresspass in grey space.

Visiting new places and meeting new people. And of course the cliche 'and killing them'.

Making lots and lots of monies, if you hunt voys. Making lots and lots of pk's if you hunt traders that refuse to pay. Nothing as satisfying as a good chase whether you get them or they escape. Hmm. Being universally hated by all the goodie goodies. Also, a great way to improve your pvp rapidly.

Also, you really only need hate or kos with your native faction. I happen to be pillor of society with all 12 of the other factions.

You should really be figuring out what you want to do though. If your asking someone to explain what piracy is on VO, your likely to get too many varying answers. My answer is, 1) ask for monies in a polite friendly manner. 2) If they give me the monies, they get to live and I don't bug them for the rest of the day. 3) If they don't pays, they dies, or I do my damndest to see that they do. 4) Talk a little 'friendly' trash on 100. 5) Pick a fight with the goodie goodies if there are enough of us active.

Wat would u say are the pros to using gud gramar as aposed 2 using ch@speek?

Use good grammar please.

Now, to answer your question: You get money if you are a pirate, and you get to say yarr. On the other hand, military guilds are sort of pointless if you have a lower-end machine (Border Skirmish is HELL on framerates) and you don't get much money. You do get good faction standing and combat licenses though.

pcirignano, if you're interested in PvP but are hesitant to adopt the pirate life, and aren't interested in nationalist militarism, there's another option: you can be an anti-pirate. In other words, you can hone your PvP skills and put them to use keeping order in the VO-verse, whether by protecting traders, or hunting down griefers, or just dueling pirates to keep them busy. It's something you can do on your own; or, if you're looking for a guild, the Vipers are dedicated to the Good Fight. They don't recruit, but if you're interested, check out their website at http://www.viperguild.com/index.html. They're always happy to answer questions and give pointers to newbies.

I've only been playing for about a month myself, so I'm not going to take a stab at trying to explain the gameplay differences between nationalists, pirates, and anti-pirates. There are some other threads on the message boards that touch on these topics - check out, for instance,

http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/1/20567#256910

My basic advice, though, is just to try different stuff out. There's a lot of carping on these message boards, but the truth is that it's a huge game with lots of different gameplay options; you're sure to find something that fits.

You get 5 or 6 character slots, and so I would consider having more than one character.

The Itani have some advantages for new players. Relative isolation for learning the game and developing a character.

The Serco are marginally less isolated, with a slightly harder development path, but otherwise similar to the Itani.

The UIT are in the thick of it.

I could give pages of advise on the variety of characters you could make, but in making and developing just one or two characters you can learn more than I can write.

I suggest you start an Itani character, learn the mechanics of the game, perhaps explore the border conflicts in Deneb, and ask a few questions along the way. The same Itani character could establish a reputation with a more centralized faction (Corvus/Xang Xi/TPG) to use as a forward scouting base to explore the darker regions of the galaxy. By the time you have advanced to this stage, you will begin to have an idea of the myriad possibilities available, and which of these interest you most. Once you have developed one character, you will find that you can develop other characters in a fraction of the time.

Given the current economic downturn, I'd suggest avoiding law or business and focus on medicine.

I will most likely be either a pirate or anti-pirate. Just one more question, as a pirate, is there lots of sitting around waiting for prey? As an anti-pirate? also, i assume there is more money in pirating than in anti-pirating, correct me if i'm wrong.

This is VO: there's always sitting around and waiting. For anyone.

Pirate seems more exciting so i'll go with that. How would i go about joining a pirate guild??
Feb 17, 2009 FistOfRage link
I usually wander around looking for targets unless I'm wanting to read, in which case, I'll camp a wh.

Money isn't an issue once you get combat 3 and start doing escort missions. Of course, you'll want to get past that and start killing the escorts and selling their goods eventually.

if you want to be a pirate just announce it on 100 and some nice ol pirate will shoot you up a bit and probably invite you to their guild. also you dont need to be in a pirate guild to be a pirate

Ok, thanks a lot, this has been really helpful. i have just one more question, once i am KOS with my faction, what factions will i be friendly with so i can dock at their stations? Are there special pirate factions?
Thanks

pcirignano: I suggest you play the game for a few weeks. The nice thing about VO is that you can easily go from military/pirate/trader/police and anywhere in between. Try a bunch of things get your licences to combat 3 at least make some credits then head down to sedina b8 and do some pvp.

There are 3 major factions but a bunch of different sub factions. So if you get KOS with your faction you can still dock with the other 2 major factions along with the other subfactions.

Unlike other games you don't need to pick a profession in the beginning of the game and stick to it forever.

Your choice. Corvus, Xang Xi, Axia and Orion would be my first picks. Some players prefer to go totally dark and get universal KOS which means they can only use Corvus stations. Others are less aggressive in it. Myself, I like to manage my standings. I'm one point away from being able to dock with my native Itani.

As Peytros said, give a shout out on 100 and someone will help you out. I'd recommend concentrating on getting your licenses up to around 5/5/5/4/0 before getting serious about pirating though. That ensures you can get most of the ships & weapons you'll want for piracy. I recomend the warthog 2 with mega posi (you'll need 10 queen kills for that) and neut 2, or a vulture 3 with your choice of weapons. I prefer neuts or axia positrons myself.
