Go under the nation rankings, and look at the populations.

Now, go undet 'Active Players' at various times of the day.

Notice a discrepancy? Are accounts deleted after a certain period of inactivity? if this is so... What is wrong? If not,
it may increase free space on the server if they were. As it stands, that population statistic is misleading.

I have recently read a few posts about people leaving and the state of the community. All i can say is i am gona try to tough it out. I think more people should start acting a little honorable. We could use bounty hunters. We could even use a police force - users dedicated to keeping the griefers/pirates to a safe level. We need friendly fire for either choice to be a real option.

Common people, lets preform some positive actions. Lets try to clean up this community before it becomes a slum.

Amen to that,
first of all, people who have not logged on in last month should not be displayed in population or have their accounts suspended.
second, i am all for forming police force in vendetta!

does that mean theres something wrong with this thread or was someone's reply removed?

I suggest you play Dawn Of Infinity! ;-)
(jk, it's no where near playable)

Tough it out, bot in your own sector, (1+4 for blues, 2+12 for reds, 3+6 for golds) Then venture away from it, learning to either run or fight.

It means someone's reply was removed.

I think that to make a good RPG in the end it will take all kinds. It will take your bloodthirsty malicious pirates that will take out newbies and take on worthy opponents both without a second thought, and it will take people with a sense of ethics who will help the weaker characters get around and develop. It also requires the help of everyone in between to make up a good RPG. A role playing game where everyone is on the side of good quickly becomes dull, and one where everyone is on the side of evil quickly becomes unplayable.

At the current time, Vendetta TEST is a capture-the-flag 1st person shooter game with some other elements thrown in. The kind of player here that shoots on sight has a slight advantage in the short run for just blowing away anyone they can. That's the kind of game it is. As the game develops, and the emphasis is shifted from CTF to RPG proper, this should change. We'll still have the hardcore griefers, we'll still have honourable pirates, I honestly wouldn't want to see either go (no matter how bad they might seem at times). On the other hand, we'll also see the good cosmic knights and kindly space wizards start showing up to help balance them out a little more. Everyone in between, too I hope.

An interesting world in which to role-play takes all kinds of role players with which to fill it.

Yep, the time for a police force is coming. It's not time yet, but in a few versions it may be.

"first of all, people who have not logged on in last month should not be displayed in population or have their accounts suspended."

As it stands, if you havn't logged on in 6 months, your account gets deleted. 1 month seems a little short to me.

In other news: Why not create a guild right now dedicated to defending newbs and protecting traders? Call it the [Kni] guild; the cosmic knights! ;P

Heh.
Jul 13, 2003 roguelazer link
No, call it the [Ni] guild
Jul 13, 2003 X0563511 link
We are the knights who say NI!

if we do form this guild, it well need to be multination. Should we start organizing it?

i suggest the tag [LAW] so it will be clear to everyone.

Phaserlight: About suspending accounts, when I said 1 month to "suspend" or "pause" the account I didn't mean to delete it from the system. Yes, it is too short for that, but 6 months is also too long for cleanup of stats.

[LAW] is a great idea, I imagine this will be a multi-national organisation, members of which will share information about possible griefers. FF is not important, because member of this organisation should have logins of different colours and perhaps
have the money donated by rich sponsors to buy ships to serve and protect people in need.

I say make it one month to have the account still there, but invisible to stats pages. 3 months for deletion from system.

Err, my post was about the specacular FAILURE of the [ISSP] guild, not about how inspirational it was.

As a pirate, my response to the police force is :

HELL YEAH!

Wow, think of the posibilities guys! Ever got bored waiting for those darn herbivores to appear? Ever thought it would be fun if you had to REALLY fight for your cargo? Ever found convoys easy enough for a few waves of sunflares?

Then the police force could meet our needs!

The only problem is this : in-fighting.

In my opinion, it will be a problem if you have friendly fire. Why? You are supposed to be on the same team, yet you are a pirate and getting hunted down by a police officer of the same team. What the hell do you do then?

Personally, I would just engage the police officer, get it over with. When I had payed my debt to society, then the police officer would leave me alone and that would be that. Personally I wouldnt mind it, but i doubt the other members of the community would be perhaps as in-character as i am when i play Vendetta.

Basically, they would get annoyed with the police force members, and then engage them when we are supposed to be capping flags etc.

It would be farcical.

Hence, imo, you should have a seperate race for Law enforcement. Money should be transferable between a Law enforcement character and any of the other players characters. So basically, no friendly fire.

(Just like Randomize's post.)

/me agrees with Leqiator. Although ideally there would be players of at least two different nations on to avoid this sort of problem.

A "police force" guild would be a lot of fun and I certainly would dedicate time to it/help organize it, however I would offer a few words of caution:

I would hesitate to call the guild [LAW] (or even the "police force" for that matter) because:

Technically there is no "law" in Vendetta, besides what players frown upon as "exploiting" or "griefing." Smacking down the "Law" on griefers, pirates etc. would generate a lot of resentment toward the guild ("What gives you the right/who says what I'm doing is illegal? blah blah blah...").

A Knight on the other hand strives to uphold a code of honor in the face of danger. He does not impose this code upon the masses, yet he will live and die by the code. If a newb/trader is being assaulted, he will rush to their aid. He will hone his fighting skills and always fight with honor (no station nuking/mining/exploiting).

This way the guild wouldn't take the attitude of "I'm right and you're wrong" but rather "I have sworn to defend those weaker than myself so griefers/pirates beware."

A few ideas if the guild were to adopt this system:

every knight should be equal (there would be no "supreme leader" of the guild) and carry equal weight within the guild

a "code of honor" should be written to which each knight would have to swear to adhere

if a knight falls from honor he may be excommunicated by 3 members of the guild who are present at the time. The "fallen knight" would no longer be recognized by the guild until he/she preforms some kind of "redemptive quest."

To enter the guild a knight would take a player as a "squire" for a period of time. The knight would train the squire until he/she was ready to take a final test. At the end of the test the squire's Knight (and another member of the guild to witness) would be waiting and swear the squire into the service of the guild. At that time the squire would create a new character with the [Ni] [Kni] (or whatever) prefix, and would recieve 1 million credits to get them started.

There will have to be a [Ni](Vault) to hold all the money.
Jul 14, 2003 Phaserlight link
I wouldn't mind taking a crack at writing a charter/code of honor and passing around to any other founding members to edit/ratify.

Call it the jedi guild. It'd be funny, cause you can't deflect bullets and stuff. Yea.
/me ate some liqur filled candy he did.
