You agree with which? The SCP is too expensive, or not expensive enough?
I think Smittens is arguing for the SCP being cheaper, and his quotes are arguing against that.
I thought it was a reasonably fair spread.. the baseline special ships are cheap, to let people learn the basics of flying them. The top ones are expensive, because they're really good. There's a strong case to be made for the SCP being the best ship in the whole game, and arguably the X-1 as well.

agreed, they do seem to be the best and they both have good spread features heavyvslight if anything there price should go up.
Augh I guess I wasn't clear. What I'm arguing (and my quotes) is that the SCP should be the most expensive by AT LEAST 10k. If the X1 is getting moved up to 70k (which I guess is fine, although personally I think 65k would've been better), the SCP price needs to go up too
I agree with Smittens.
I also agree with smittens, scp is too unbalanced to be ranking with the x1 in price
Let's not forget that in furballs the SCP and the X1 are decently balanced.
Why don't we let the players control the prices?
Make the median ship price 10,000 credits.
Make the minimum ship price 100 credits.
The ship that is purchased the least (or not at all) assumes the 100 credit minimum price, and all other prices are adjusted according to how often they are purchased, in order to obtain the median. To reduce artificial manipulation, ships sold reduce total sales volume for that ship type.
Make repair price independent of purchase price. Again, setting a median and a minimum. A minimum of 1 credit per %, with a median of 100. A ship that might be dirt cheap, could end up expensive to repair, and vise versa.
This would lead to much greater diversity in the ships we see in use, and we won't have to listen to subjective opinions on what prices should be.

You mean I'm not tumblemonster? Damn, you all had me going for a bit...
Pointsman: For the average Valk pilot against the average prom pilot, no, not at all
I believe Roda's got the best idea, as well as one that will most likely wind up being implemented A Long Ways Down The Road™, as opposed to Soon™. To judge from the trade goods, it certainly looks like the long-term plan is to eventually have Ores->Alloys->Components->Modules->Ships as the way things work in a fully fleshed out economic system, where the cost of the ships we buy is influenced both by our demand for the model and our ability to supply the parts for it.
Unfortunately, as we need a solution Soon™, some corners need to be cut. I suggest the hat method- for every SCP and X-1 bought, Incarnate puts a little slip of colored paper in a hat. At the end of the week, he sticks his hand in the hat and pulls one out- that ship gets its price kicked up 5k, and the other one drops 5k. Inc should be wearing a glove of the finest white velvet on the hand he sticks into the hat, and the hat itself must be an exceptionally dashing one. Anything less would be unfair.
Also, I am Spartacus.

I would be very curious if a dev could produce numbers of ships purchased and percentage points of repairs by ship type, just to help us put this pricing issue in perspective.
And to be blunt, my subjective opinion is that the valk is by far the most unbalanced ship in the game, and that you could not hardly price it high enough to balance it's frequency of use.

@Roda:
here are my 2 subjective cents:
Players without a fairly good combat skill die easy in any ship.
Players with mediocre fighting skill flying SCP-s do not die easy.
Players with good fighting skill die to mediocre players in SCP-s
.
Players with exceptional fighting skill (like Eldrad, Shape, Martin, Ghost, etc) kill everyone regardless of ship they are using.

Smittens: Promys can be incredibly annoying. There is no denying that.
It's just that in, say NWs, SCPs don't seem to help the Serco team all that much. X1s on the other hand seem to confer quite an advantage to the UIT and Itani teams.

Yoda couldn't possibly be me. His British accent sounds totally fake...
Thats cos I'm really a jock :P
yodaofborg can not be tumble, because yodaofborg still knows how to fire a positron.
I am still hoping a dev can step up and produce some numbers of which ship types are the most commonly purchased and repaired. (bs mission not included).

Yeah, I would like to see that info too roda.
Here's some not-too-old data on absolute ship popularity. It may not be quite as useful as was anticipated, but I did take it into account with other information when I made my new baseline prices.
