Snax: any "extreme prejudice"/dev kill is considered a kill for Unknown Entity, so it probably did.

Ok, from what it looks, moda killed gavan with an l-mine that he lauhcned before he was killed by gavan.
Moda got sent to his home station (leaving the sector) and then gavan died and couldn't look up the name of his killer because the killer left the sector. The sector log filled in the error with the victim's name, hence the gavan killing gavan with l-mine. But the client doesn't do that and just shows Unknown Entity instead.

In light of that, there's one paraphrased quote that comes to mind...

"Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering pirate; to the last I grapple with thee; from hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake, I spit my last breath at thee. How long do lmines live after their owner leaves the sector?

They should disappear immediately, just like rockets/missiles and other mines.

I've personally never seen them leave immediately, at least not when I've been paying attention. They always take a few seconds to disappear. Which explains the current disucssion....

Well it is a very good thing that we proved in public that tumble was wrong with his "actually, I think Moda did it." post accusing me of doing an op kill when I can not do in the first place.

They leave as soon as the player leaves the sector, which is a few seconds after they die.

it just hit me, the person that did killed should get combat exp and a pk for that but they do not, isn't this a tiny bit unfair? After all what is to stop someone from forcing lag and collisions to enter into situations like this?

You're saying that you think you should get a pk because the l-mines you dropped killed someone AFTER you died or left the sector? Why? It's a bug? They're supposed to dissapear the second you die or leave the sector?

Actually I can care less about the PK but a kill is a kill regardless of when/where you make it or so that seems to be what I am learning in this game anyways.

Also I think that if anyone were able to see what I saw you doing on my HUD they would be up in arms over this and making a major stink. That weirdness was just very funky and reeked of unexpected behavior, some hackery or something similar. I'm sorry but I have seen all forms of 'lag' and what I was watching was other things going on besides 'lag'.

So then, what cheat did you think Gavan was using before his "unfortunate" demise?

Do I owe you an apology? No, I don't think so. Despite the devs warning you repeatedly you're still on the warpath to get me, requesting mutes, and generally starting crap for now reason.

Moda, it wasn't the best idea to automatically assume Gavan had cheated, but that's cleared up now, and if he DID cheat, then a pox on him and his descendants forever.

Impavid/Tumble, you should quit being a jerk. Also, it's "no reason," not "now reason."

Maybe we could just let this thread die...the devs know what happened and will work on fixing it. If you don't want to apologize to each other, then there's nothing we can do to change your mind. Just remember that pride is the stupidest thing in the world and that life is easier when you're rid of it.

Just so we're clear, I'm not accusing anyone of cheating per se. What I originally said was that if someone was cheating, I would hope it would be dealt with accordingly if the means were there to figure it out.

Now that it seems to be a bug, the only person still insinuating that someone cheated (aside from Tumble) is Blacknet/Moda, and quite frankly Moda, if you don't have any evidence aside from the fact that you were killed repeatedly by myself, then please stop with the slander.

Plenty of strange things happen due to network issues. B8 is a particularly good example as I've gone through periods where I feel invincible for 3 or 4 fights, only to be rendered a sitting duck for the next few.
