Here goes...

I swear that I will become a long term subscriber to the game as soon as 1 of the following conditions becomes true...

- Crafting system

- Trac system comes online

- Pilot-able capital's

- My first 'vendetta newsletter'

So there you have it, I know it's not much but um... ye...

Oh as well, i'll start a database site catalogging all the plugins available :)

Hopefully we'll have the mailing list (newsletter) system up and running by the end of the week. We're currently applying half of the company to that project.

cool, it's not really a big issue for me, but it'd be nice and it might bring back people who let thier accounts lapse.

Thankyou very much for the quick response, I guess you will be in command of my money very shortly then ;P

Its partially a marketing thing and partially a community-cohesion thing. We have always needed to be more effective at bringing the userbase together for Events (or, for that matter, informing people), and creating more interesting periodic gameplay. Hopefully it'll also bring back some old players, like spine. We'll see. It's an important tool, regardless, and something we've clearly had planned since the beginning.. but kept getting bogged down in some development or other, or fighting some fire.

Ye, I can see how thst could happen but I do feel that at the moment, it's not easy enough to get news on how development is going. I have been checking the site once a week for longer than I can remember to be honest, but it's never been easy from the news posts whats been going on and patch notes... A) Are alittle difficult to find without the client and B) not very n00b friendly when they are found. However, I love your game, it is really one of my favourites (even though i've only played a trial because I have been worried about the game just suddenly 'dissapearing' due to funds').

BTW, you can have my cash tomorrow :) the ability to talk to a dev within afew minutes of a forum post should have been one of those conditions, I just hadn't t ought of it before lol.

FFS, Incarnate, do you need a hand with the newsletter? I know someone in the Milwaukee area who could do that kind of thing easily.

BTW actual newsletters would be kickass as well. But just making a nice HTML notification or a PDF attachment to email, well, this guy I know does all of that.

Plus he's already a Vendetta-Online subscriber.

Plus he could use the work.

Leber: thanks, but.. we were just going to start out with like, a text email, saying what's going on with the game and whatnot. Kind of like newsposts, but more slanted towards upcoming events and gathering people and so on. If people have other ideas about what we should do, I'm open to it.. a thread on Suggestions would probably be best.

We might eventually work up to something more graphical and formatted and such, but starting small seemed wise. Plus, we have a substantial unix-geek following, I'm not sure how excited they would all be to receive HTML emails with large PDF attachments. I personally just moved off of Pine (text email program) a couple of years ago, I know how excited I would have been.

So anyway, first things first, gotta get the list all working, and then put together some content for it, like an event of some kind.

HTML mail = fail.

mutt for the win.

Just out of curiosity, incarnate, what exactly is there to the newsletter that requires half of your staff, anywho? I mean, can't you just use the same infrastructure you did a couple of years ago?

But these guys are running a graphical game they downloaded from a graphical website... surely it's abit backward to be occomidating their primary need instead of the re t of us? And besides, if you used the template for your site (always a good idea), t
en they'll get the the same viewing performance as when they downloaded the client surely? (Which was clearly usable or thewouldn't be here?)

Only a suggestion.

The key word was substantial unix following. One of Guild's strengths is that they manage a multi-platform game with little to no platform bias. I don't use unix, but I appreciate that Vendetta is all-inclusive.

Half of Guild's staff is two people, and the infrastructure has changed since two years ago. Most likely they're spending the time on the front-end so that things are reasonably automated and robust. If they have to waste a bunch of time with a kludgey newsletter system every time they want to send a letter, then it wouldn't get used much.

Your right Whistler, I've played vendetta on all 3 platforms and it runs perfectly on all (as far as I can tell lol)and I love the fact that it (particularly) includes Linux in the equation as I swap between operating systems almost weekly and when I'm running Linux, I didn't really have a game to play. But now, almost whatever OS I run (almost because I run solaris occasionally) I can play a familiar game lol.

EDIT: Just spilt water on my laptop :| :S maybe not buying vendetta today lol *runs off to grab towel*
