rogue: we didn't use any infrastructure last time. I made a big hashed alias list out of a database dump, and used that for some one-time mailings. This time, we're trying to do it properly.. integrate it with the database, updates automatically, confirm the email address as part of the signup process, so on and so forth.
Strictly speaking, setting up a mailing list on its own is pretty trivial. Integrating it into all of our administration infrastructure so it causes us the minimum amount of long-term headache.. that's a little more complicated.

:s you did a mailing list without the email addresses being in a db? ^o) lol can see why the step up might take awhile then. Just out of interest, what database do you run?

yeah well just for the protocoll: I'm one of these linux users having a really eyecandy desktop and stuff but I still prefer simple text mails, thank you :)
Alright then, if I get a monospaced text email from the devs, I expect a generous helping of ASCII art. That might be more exciting than my monospaced spam notifier emails.
