Just a request for clarification -sp- from the devs. Player thoughts on the subject welcome.

Nope. It's a cheap exploit. On the other hand if someone from the other team is demining while keeping a safe distance and dodging enemy fire, THAT is what I'd consider a skilled and honorable player. By switching teams you essentially make yourself an invincible player, reducing your reputation to cowardly status.
There is no reason for a player on the same team to destroy their own teams mines because they can't be hurt by them period. Doing so is cheating as far as I'm concerned as it only benifits the enemy.
Just my 2¢ worth.

I always demine, unless it's a flag. Mines aren't there to lay down large fields, they're there to discourage people from running up your rear thrusters.
/me glares at all the station miners

I have no qualms about demining, because as far as I'm concerned, all weapons should be targetable by all players.
On an aside note, since mines are targetable, WARHEADS SHOULD BE TARGETABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (especially warheads shot while the other player has you on their HUD - once again, X-Wing Alliance does it right)
(sorry about that, but it's something I really want)

Genka, who are you to say that station mining is cheating/exploiting? I don't see it written anywhere that it's a rule. Until station defenses are set up to eliminate campers and nuke exploiters, mining should remain as a perfectly legit tactic.
I believe he's talking about...say....a gold station mining in 11, not defensive mining of Station 3 or 6. The prior is a shotgun tactic that kills many innocents.
Uh, Arolte, laying mines INSIDE THE WALLS is an exploit.
Woah. Yes it is.
Well, if someone demines a station, you demine as yourself, or as a team, not by cheating. Time warp to 3.1 (in 3.2 I haven't had any real mine problems), lunatic and red team mining s7 or s9, we (gold team) comes in from either 7/9 demining with homers and ions as a team, in about 5 min it's all clear.
So organize your team, if it's too out of hand, don't let anyone get near it, mines aren't free, rather, expensive.

Apparently mines weren't sympathetically detonating like they were supposed to. This should be fixed in 3.2.8, which makes demining a minefield which has been packed too tightly much easier. But perhaps we should change it so friendly ships/weapons don't detonate mines at all.
yes yes yes!
if there isn't friendly team damage, then same-team players shouldn't be able to do _anything_ to same-team mines. Friendly mines are not a threat, so there's no reason to make them vunerable.

Well, how about making all physical weapons fired by an opposing team member targetable?
that would be fun, but then wouldnt frigs never die? Because people would just target the missels that people are launching from too far away to hit the ship, and they turrets would be able to shoot down the nukes, flares, and other weapons. not energy weapons though... yeah.
That makes it more challenging...think of divebombing...targetable warheads would rekindle my interest big-time.
Besides, you'd be able to protect frigate-sized cargo ships...you could shoot down the warheads before they got to the ship. I see piracy being way too easy otherwise (it would go like this: pirates launch warheads and then immediately attack...while they're tangling with the defenders, their warheads sail on in unharassed and the ship goes BOOM).

NOTHING in game is rather expensive. Everything is just a dent in everyone's 50 million creds. (If that isn't obvious enough to you, make everything really really expensive or make it hard to get money all throughout the game, not just at the start)
Yes, we're all rich, which is why I hardly have 200k, and that barely gets me through.
Yeah, and team fire demining is so far from fair it hurts. With a good minefield, a single person or a two man team can stop or slow a cap against a substantial invasion force. It's not fair to have somebody demine, especially when they already have the advantage as far as numbers go. I like the idea of the mines being indestructable to team members.

I must confess I was the one(red aka 'Hand E kapt')mining sec7, At the time there were 3-5 reds there chasing off the bules/golds. My thought was we were trying to control the sector(we've done it before) so I figured I would start mining the entire area. I started with the station so you couldn't repair their and then began with the mining of the gates(I figured ~ 100m around the jump point would work) with this I had hoped it would push blue/gold out... and it did for a bit, until my own team started blowing up my mines (and their not cheap at all!) It was a reasonable tatic and well exicuted. the original station field was large and did the job(until someone fired a nuke!) I don't think friendly demineing is fair, You'll never see a army shooting down its own planes. they only last 15 min as well. making mining a full time affair (as I quickly learned)
And thats my $1.85 in change.
