The second mission for the Superlight is a Corvus mission, in Sedina only, and requires that your UIT faction standing be higher than "HATE". This is due to the story context of the particular mission, as well as making sure it continues to work after we add in border security.

does that mean they don't "mine" their cores anymore?
Dec 01, 2007 MSKanaka link
If I correctly interpreted what Incarnate and a1k0n said last night, they should have a static drop rate now.
Dec 01, 2007 incarnate link
Yes, the drop rate should be continuous. They don't magically blow away their inventories at certain stages of mining.

I'm in that courier mission now. Somehow it's stuck after running into that constellation.

Could it be because I didn't wait for it? It told me to stop but I jumped out as soon as one of those raptors got close, half a second later I got that "bla bla he's carrying textiles" exchange.. but nothing more after that.

So, let me understand this correctly... To take a CORVUS MISSION in CORVUS SPACE (where the pirates live) you have to have UIT landing rights? And, since friendly fire is STILL an issue and most pirates are UIT hated, Corvus denizens can't take the corvus mission.

That. Is. Stupid.

Move it to a UIT station, change the story context of the mission, or base it on Corvus standing only.
Dec 01, 2007 Whistler link
That. Is. Rude.

Unnecessarily so. Did you try the mission yet?

Impavid: The ship which is unlocked with the mission is available in more places than Corvus space. Besides, IMO it's good that there are more repercussions for losing standing with a nation.

Can't try the mission whistler, I tanked my UIT standing so I could be a pirate. Standing by the way, I would have kept had it not been necessary to tank do to friendly fire.
Dec 01, 2007 Shadoen link
I second Impavid. Its a corvus related mission after all.
Dec 01, 2007 JestatisBess link
I agree with slime73 there should be repercussions for tanking your standing. But Impavid has a point. If you need high UIT standing make it a uit mission in Azek.

Or, make it so that only players who are KOS or hated with their own factions should be the only ones able to do the widowmaker missions and get widowmakers from corvus, provided that they have good standing with corvus.

Missions suck!
Dec 01, 2007 MysticRogue link
I have to agree here that a mission in Corvus that requires good Uit standing doesn't make much sense. Even the backstory has Corvus on the outside of the law, but Inc said it will fit in with the mission tree, so I will wait and see.
Dec 01, 2007 incarnate link
Spuck: that problem should be fixed now. And yes, you jumped out too early, but it handles running from the border guards now (and aggressively, so.. I'd do what they say, heh).

(Blah blah UIT standing Corvus mission blah): Look, it's related to the context of the mission. Do you think that because corvus has a black market, they should magically never have dealings with UIT space ever again? It makes sense within the story context. It is a very specific use-case. It isn't because Corvus thinks pirates are bad (they aren't pro-pirate either, they're just ambivalent and morally ambiguous).. it's because Corvus needs you to smuggle something into UIT space, and hiring someone on the "wanted list" to get past border security doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It's about the overall objective, not the faction itself.

Plus, I would like the mission to continue working once we start putting fortifications on the borders, and making Capitol systems totally Guarded (seeing as how you have to cross the UIT border and fly through Dau and other stuff).

That said, I've already told several previous people who bitched about this, that I'll consider making another mission to achieve the same final end, that IS available to those with tanked UIT standing. But I haven't made it yet, and I just spent like 7 hours debugging stuff, so I'm not going to make it right this instant.

So, for the moment, people are either trying it on alts, or botting up their standing. I'll send out a twitter thing when I get to making an alternate mission, but for now, it is not available.

As an aside, it is also the most complex single mission ever released into production in our game. It's some 20 stages, has two major forks (that makes 8 different ways you could successfully complete it), and was a giant pain in the ass to write. So you'll have to just take my word for it that the storyline requires that it be a Corvus-owned and posted mission that *takes you through* UIT space. Because I don't want to give the whole thing away on here.

Thus far, I've gotten very positive reviews from those who *have* completed it (sorry Spuck), and comments like "I hope we can expect more missions like this". I tried to make something cool and interesting to unlock this ship. I will try to make a no-UIT-standing alternative to it, but it'll probably be a lot more simplistic.

As another aside, if you look at people who actually *do* smuggle stuff, currently.. like say.. drug mules, you'll notice they don't hire mass murderers to do their smuggling. They try to find nice, bland people (often attractive women, in that example) who they think will be given an easier time by customs, and will blend in. It would not be logical to hire someone who is very likely to get stopped.. to smuggle your goods.

Nor would it have been easy to engineer that mission around the idea of a user potentially flying through UIT space being chased by a couple of strike forces.

It's a shame there's controversy over this. What we SHOULD be doing is heralding the arrival of complex missions, inegration of story into the game, and reason to attain or maintain faction levels (aside from what little we had before).

It's not like this is the last mission that will ever be written. I'm sure much has been learned in the process, and future missions will be easier to create. Im sure there will opportunities for those who are favored by other factions, and some love for the pirates as well.

how do you know so much about real smugglers incarnate, hummm....
And thanks for the cool missions, i haven't made it through yet though.

Well, I'm enjoying the mission Tree , the second mission is the sort of mission vo has needed for a while .

The fact that you need to be able to enter uit space does not detract from the mission .
Any player who has tanked their uit standing will be experienced enough to bot it up to -599 , take the mission , then tank it again if they really want the SL as a pirate ship .

I see no reason why everthing should be handed out on a plate . As the available missions increase there can be missions for all styles of play , and perhaps alternate mission trees to gain the same objective.
