Hello... I'm new to VO and have been wandering the FAQ and Msgboard, wiki etc, because I have dial-up so have not been able to download the game over the internet, and ordered the software version on ebay, anyways... I noticed the the Devs haven't been posting news lately (since may 19th). It looked to me like they posted at least once a week and now seemed to have quit. I love to be informed and up-to-date and am realy thinking about buying a 1 year scrip befor I even play the game. I just don't want to do so if the Devs are letting up on keeping the game updated, and wanted to ask if there has been any progress on game development since this game has been out since early 2000's and not so many players... Thanks again, Zancer.
Hah, there should be a release tomorrow or so.
Welcome.

The work continues, even if the News has fallen behind slightly

Thank you very much guys. One thing I have noticed is its a pretty tight community.
Yep. We've had our share of rough times, but it's been a blast all the same :)
If you're going to buy the boxed version of vendetta, you'll still have to download updates for the game. And since that boxed version is pretty old, from 2004.., that update you'll have to download might be pretty large..
Yes, Zancer, best to grit your teeth and download the new version over a long weekend...

Updating from the boxed version still saves a considerable amount of download time. The music, sound effects, textures, and models haven't changed very much, and they consume the most space.
i was wondering if the update does progressive updates or is it able to download a single delta chunk?
Kind of a combination of the two. It just downloads the concatenation of deltas of all the intermediate patches (unless redownloading the file would be smaller than all the patches combined), and then the client reassembles these into a single delta to make the patching go quicker. It'd be better for download times to do it on the server side but I was trying to keep the server simple.
To handle the most common cases, I guess I could also construct a precomputed delta between the boxed version and current, and one for the last downloadable package too.
The updater is one of many, many more things that I want to improve, but are serviceable for the time being.

This is also further motivation for us to put a new version (CD) up for sale via cafepress. Something I've been meaning to do for awhile. Would be minimally priced, and wouldn't have any of the cool stuff that was in the original box, but at least it'd be an improvement for people on modems.
What was in the original box? This is the first time I've heard that it was available in any way other than download (I first saw it on linuxgames.com, and haven't ever seen it physically for sale).
Booklet version of the manual and backstory, a hybrid CD that had linux, windows and Mac OSX installers for VO, and a nice poster with the system map on it.
I would buy a new system poster if it was sold separately, doubly so if it came rolled up instead of folded. My last one got sort of trashed along with the box and the manual when I moved =(
Also, having giant creases in the poster kind of sucked.

Devs:
can you guys post a huge pdf system poster for download and printing at home? I would love that as a former beta tester and pre-launch purchaser. :D

-Sorry for the double post- I just wanted to say that I read the entire backstory, and my hat is off to whomever wrote that. I throughly enjoyed reading it.

That was Incarnate himself.
big printable file of the systems would be really nice. i would run to the copy-center across the street to print in A0 size and hang it on the wall.
Hi, about the poster.. not only do I not have a nice large PDF file, but I haven't been able to find Waylon's original data at all. So uhh.. I may be making a new poster. But I do want to offer: A) the game on CD (cheaply), B) a poster, and C) A printed booklet version of the storyline, actually typeset properly and stuff (also with some grammar and voice corrections). I don't know when I'll get B or C done (I installed Scribus the other month to look at typesetting the storyline, but.. it's not exactly a priority), but doing a CD of the game shouldn't be that hard. Maybe one of these weekends. In all my spare time. Har har.
