Yes, you heard me correctly-- ENGINE. Let's set the scene, shall we?

I was floating around Deneb O-3 with my guild buddies Omega 0 and Some Dude. I was collecting cargo around the station and went to drop it off. I switched to my IDF Valkyrie, launched from the station and came back. I was about to go to a duel with Omega 0 and I unequipped my Valkyrie. Out came... yes, an ENGINE. Screens!



Well this may be nice and dandy, but now I have a nice IDF engine sitting in my station hold, with no way "port" to equip it with. So what do I do?



Went crazy, of course. Once I gained my composure and changed my spacepants, I bought a nice Vulture and loaded the engine into the hold. Exiting the station I was presented with this:



Wow, well, lookie there. A nice icon. After throwing another few fits on the guild channel, Omega 0 (veteran since 60 BC) politely informed me that engines were an early feature of VO, before battery drain was invented. So, I deduced that this is either a slippery move by our lovely devs to implement this feature again, or it's a ganking bug that was put to work with the update (possibly the new station GUI).

After this careful thinking, I met Omega and SomeDude in an empty sector, where I asked them to carefully examine it.

So yay! I'm possibly the only character in the new universe now, which possesses a weightless, useless, costless peice of equiptment with no use and no way to load onto a ship. So what am I going to do with it?

Yeah, too bad we can't equip it though -- the IDF it came out of wouldn't launch without it and I couldn't equip it because there were no "engine" ports.

Its not true that engines were a feature before engine drain, but basically it went like you had engines you could fit on _any_ ship, nd you had batteries to power them, certain combos went fast, but drained, certain setups didnt drain, but lost speed, but it basically ment that the only difference between ships was ship mass, and amount of stuff it could carry, So I doubt its a sign that engines are gunna be interchangeble again, cos that would suck ass.

But LoL, thats awesome, but not enough to pay moneys for it :P

Hehehe. I don't expect people to bid. It's a storytelling element. :D Unless someone wants to pay crazies money for it, it's staying firmly in the station.

Humm. Yeah, we'd love to know how to reproduce that bug, if anyone figures it out. No, we aren't bringing back globally-interchangable engines, sorry :).

I've been trying all night to duplicate the bug that caused it, but nothing seems to be happening...

Wouldn't it be good to just destory the 'engine' code altogeather? Maybe it'll be a small speeder-upper.

And just how do you suppose our ships would fly around then?! Huh? HUH?!

Yeah, the engines are still necessary as far as I know. Just not the fact that you can swap them out isn't.
