Frigate

Well... I hate to start a thread just to beg for details on the frigate, but it's several more hours and I just can't stand it any longer. I'm at serious risk of losing my will power, logging on to Vendetta and getting fired for doing so...

it's situated in sector 16

it's heavilly armored, and it has some kick ass fighters defending it.

so don't come to close

that's all that I know, me would like to have screenshots and things like that :D

cheers

Well, it's really big, bristling with turrets, and surrounded by truly relentless purple alien bots. If you shoot a bot, expect to be pursued to the death. Doing a flyby results in an impressive cloud of ions from the turrets.

Killing the frigate takes quite a few avalons. The explosion includes the ejection of very large debris, which fly quite some distance and eventually break up into smaller bits before disappearing. I tracked the largest chunk (one of the tail fins or whatever) clear to the asteroid belt before it began to break up. The debris does not appear to cause collision damage.
A large and VERY lucrative cargo field is left behind where the frigate once was. The frigate returns afer 15-20 minutes. I did not see it return, but am told that there is no special spawning visual as yet.

I'm sure others will fill in the fine details about how many avalons and the proceeds from the cargo.

Yeah, very heavily armored. Today, I launched a few attacks to test it out. 24 nukes and 144 sunfire rockets later, it was still standing. I managed to destroy a few of the turrets it has, though. Eventually, someone destroyed it, but myself and a gold player had been doing nuke runs on it for about half an hour. No station in s16, so it was a pain. A very tough oyster to crack.

darn there goes my theory of 12 nukes to crack it.

When will we be able to buy a frigate or cap. ship? Now we can fight one, but I want to be able to buy one...
May 13, 2003 Renegade ++RIP++ link
I'd rather fight one, then fly one.

To much money on the stakes when it is destroyed :D

So we know that it has more than 504,000 hull points, but what we don't know is whether some of those apparant hit points are coming from armor, damage resistance, regeneration of hull points, or whatever. I'm guessing at this stage, no, but that's only a guess. What do you think a reasonable guess is 600000 hp, 750000 hp, 1000000 hp?

Someone mentioned that its turrets take damage independently. Do we have a count of the number of turrets? Do the turrets have facings or can all of them shoot 360 (including through the hull)? Do all of them shut down prior to the hull failing, or is the number of functioning turrets apparantly independent of hull failure? Someone said 'ions'? Are they shooting ions or just making use of the ion graphic, and do we know how much damage the individual shots do?

Does it move? If so, at what speed?

(/me can't wait to see this thing.)

okay.... I think it would be worth the money in the MMORPG. but right now in the test i think its just fun to kill. It would be a useful tool in wars and stoping flag caps. But other wise it would be a pain in the ass.

The turrets die when the frigate dies. They are using turreted gatlings with what appears to be a significantly wider field of fire. However, they cannot shoot through the hull.

It does not move, and is thus extremely vulnerable to ships that hang out away from the bots' attention range, and fire nukes at it. To counteract this, I would suggest that it get one turreted dev beam cannon on top and bottom. The damage that beam does fits the Frigate very well, and would make launching nuke attacks actually a challenging undertaking.

It's pretty changelling anyhow. Do you want it to be INVINCIBLE?

I just this moment woke up after passing out from excitement... now that I've wiped most of the drool off of my keyboard, I am anxiously awaiting the end of the work day. I will log on at 5pm EST sharp and will gladly help anyone who wants to attempt taking down the frigate.

hahha. sounds good. IM in school right now which really is a pain in the butt. But i will be on l8r today around 7-9 PST.

And to think that some of you guys didn't want the avalon prox detonator toned down. Shame on you. You see, now they have a place in the game.

=b
May 13, 2003 Renegade ++RIP++ link
Euhm, if we didn't have toned it down, then we could have killed the frigate more easilly :D

me wonders , where the logic in aroltes post was :D

cheers
May 13, 2003 Whistler link
I think the toned-down prox detonator makes the avalons MORE effective against such a large target as it assures that the center of the blast is closer to the intended target. This assumes that they made the blast characteristics for the avalon and the damage characteristics of the frigate similar to the ships and weapons already in game.

Well, I think the game finally looks more balanced...kudos to the devs for another update well done!
May 13, 2003 slappyknappy link
What other balances have been made?

~me twitches and waits for 11 more minutes until 5pm ET~

Heh, what I mean is that a single Ragnarok could rule a Frigate. Nukes can fly for over two minutes before timing out. Thus, he does what I did. Get a dual-nuke Rag and keep making runs between 5 and 16, nuking. It'll take time, but the Frigate is totally helpless, and the fighters don't seem to give a damn if you're outside their range. What the beam cannon upgrade would do is provide long-range defensibility, and make those who would nuke actually work (dodge) for their victory.
May 13, 2003 Renegade ++RIP++ link
euhm wasn't it impossible to dodge the devs beams

I thought I heard something about khral getting hit by one, and obliterated in a mere second
