I right now want the name Assassin but its taken.
I get on and check the active players everyday almost all the time and yet "Assassin" has not once logged on.

If that person isnt playing or paying anymore is there a way i can have that name? could you change his name to "Assassin-" so I dont have to put Assassin- and so i can only put "Assassin"?

It would be so cool if someone could.

Well, the thing about that is, if they do it for you, they should also do it for _Ghost_ and others, and I doubt they will, cos imagine if Assassin is a paying customer that just doesnt play? Or is an alt of someone who plays all the time, but they just no-longer use that name?

Anyways, if its taken, you aint getting the name. Well, not for a long time anyways, the current *official* stance on accounts is they WILL NOT be removed/deleted, which I personally think is a good thing. So looks like its ~Assassin~ for you matey!

Aye, you and I are up the creek mate. What I wouldn't give to remove those underscores...

I agree entirely with the policy of keeping names and accounts fixed for long periods. VO seems to be a game that folk return to after long absences ; it would be unfair to delete or rename anyones accounts or alts until it was established that they really did not wish to return.

Al they would be doing is changeing there name to how i have it, they currently have Assassin but if they havent log in for a long time then there name could be switched to -Assassin- so i can get Assassin,

Devs plz consider taking away names from trial account makers that havent come back in a long time. I would stil complety understand you not wanting to though, i love this, i just wanna love it a little more.

Sry for the errors.

In this case, neither "Ghost" nor "Assassin" had played since 2003. So uh, there you go, guys. Sorry I forgot for so long, Ghost.

But, but, the names are so cliche...

Apart from that, this means if someone wants a name and it's taken he can ask you to check if you can make it available, right?

Wait wait wait. Do you honestly mean I can have my underscores removed? Don't toy with me!! This would be like a coming of age for me.

Yea, Assassin is pretty cliche... besides which, I really don't think the newb has earned it yet =P

So, a1k0n, does this mean that if I leave for 3 years and come back, someone else could have taken Cunjo away?

Excepting maybe if they never subscribed past the trial phase, I'm not sure I approve of the redistribution of old character names... An identity is not a trivial thing, even in VO.

He has a point. In any case, if by some freak chance the player who actually had the name "Ghost" returns, I'll be happy to go back to my underscores. But thx a1k0n!!!

I have an idea!!!!

Hows about for trial users they get a mark by their name, like * if it weren't for bots. Upon signing up, that mark disapears, so when VO becomes as popular as it should be we don't have a bunch of trials taking all the good names.
Jun 14, 2006 Cunjo link
I think the traditional mark for freeloaders/trialers is the tilde.

So all froobs would sport a ~?

I don't like that... for one, they'd fight for names they don't really have, and then changing them upon registration could become an issue... besides which, we don't want to mark everyone on a trial account with a symbol that screams 'n00b!'

Oh, BTW, Assassin, or whatever you call yourself... The name 'Assassin' is both generic and unorignal - you really can't claim it as an identity. In reality, a distinguishing mark would make it more personable, not less; a name like 4ssassin, Assass1n, or, God forbid, -Assassin- is more easily recognizable and can develop into a personal trademark - just ask anyone who's gotten to know _Ghost_...

Cunjo: I wouldn't do it to people who had subscribed. But in this case, neither of them had even played after the game went pay-to-play.
