Jumpgate 2 similar to VO?

Jumpgate and Vendetta online are both different games and is not worth stating that one game is better over another game.

The difference is, that Jumgate is older than Vendetta online.

Don't judge and critisize the game by the graphics. Because loyal players over at Jumpgate says gameplay is more important than graphics.

The reason why Jumpgate was availible for Windows only because Linux and Mac were not popular OSes these days. Also back then when Jumpgate was being developed, all of the other games had low quality textures, and low poly models because of the days of 3DFX, Voodoo, ATI TNT, Geforce MX. Like Half-Life and the very first Unreal for an example... were in the same timeframe as Jumpgate.

When Vendetta was being developed, Linux and Mac were more popular so the developers decided to make Vendetta availible for 3 different OSes.

I'm not exactly right on the OS popularity issues but just a guess.

"the truth is : these guys are a carebears-pvpers.
old players have better ships and equipments so they will own the newbies. that's make they feel strong."

I disagree with that quote... because you seem to be overlooking the game. Killing newbies in JG is somewhat very frowned upon. And there are plenty of high level players who help out the newbies. And you don't have to get the best ship to hop into a PvP fleet. I'm an old player over at JG and almost all the time, fly a level 9 ship(light fighter) into PvP. High level ships are still needed for 1-on-1 PvPs.

I'm not trying to say JG is better than Vendetta but just flat out, both different games.

Just as a side-note, we started development in 1998. About the same time as Jumpgate. They acquired a publisher before we did (3DO, in their case), and were actually able to launch their game within their intended timeline.. we didn't find a publisher until 2004. Unfortunately, their publisher was not so good, and it didn't work out too well for them. Our decisions to support Linux and Mac were made a very long time ago, in the late 90s. We had a MacOS 9 port (along with BeOS), a 3DFX (Glide) DOS version, and so on. We always had somewhat more advanced graphics (I remember playing the JG betas), but their game was always more feature and gameplay-complete. In some ways it still is. They aimed for a smaller goal and attained it. We aimed for a bigger one and still haven't gotten there.. so our game is still missing some of the gameplay that would give it a contiguous sense of purpose.

The only reason why our graphics now vastly surpass theirs.. is our game is still in development. JG was basically "released" and NetDevil moved on to Auto Assault and so on. They still minimally support the game, last I heard, but I don't think they spend any time on developing the engine or new graphics content. Auto Assault is their new baby, and I imagine it looks pretty good. VO is still our only project, and we periodically try to freshen things up. It is worth noting though, that our graphics engine was pretty good from the getgo.. we haven't really updated anything significant about it in maybe 5-6 years? We just occasionally write new shaders for new use-cases, and try to improve things within the framework of what we already have (like improving the lighting a few weeks ago, or the planets last week).

I've met some of the NetDevil guys at E3 occasionally, and they seem like a nice bunch. I've always respected JG, it's a similar game, but a little different, and they accomplished some things that we still haven't. I think they probably had a lot more financial support than we did, and a few more developers, but that's not really meant as an excuse. Anyway, I felt really badly for them when 3DO tanked their launch, and was happy to see them make a comeback with Auto Assault.

Hopefully sometime soon (not Soon(tm)) our game will actually be a bit more gameplay-feature-complete as well, and VO will be "whole". That's my goal, at least :). JG is what it is, VO is what it is (and what it will be), and people should play what they like.

We LOVE VO. Incarnate, thanks for the comments. We all think VO is unique in every way. The comparison to jumpgate you made shows clearly how special VO is and how unique it is positioned. :) GO DEVS!
