looks like VO in some ways, check out the screenshots. THey have mining too!
hehe.. and I liked the auto docking mechanism.
From the "Features":
"Customizable, upgradeable player-owned stations"
"48 ships in 16 different hull classifications"
and no mac version.... :) We need some of those Features in VO! Soon!

Heh, looks like X:BTF online.
Graphics in VO are much better, though. And the interface. And the ships. And pretty much everything... I found Jumpgate pretty boring, actually. Some people love it, though.
...and this jumpgate 2 didnt get any better?
Windows only. That's a deal killer.
@mdaniel: Essentially? No. The gameplay is still the same, the engine is still the same (a little worse than the Freespace 1 engine), etc.
It's not truely Jumpgate 2, it's Jumpgate: Espisode 2.
If I have VO, why would I want to try that one out?
jumpgate ship-maneuvrability is classic &
the combat depend of your ship equipment & your shooting ability.
while vendetta online ship-maneuvrability give more adrenaline, involve more player's skill and more tactic possibility.
the combat do not depend only on your ship-equipemnt but also on your combo of :
dodging ability, shooting ability & tactics.
some people prefer the classic ship-maneuvrability that's why they play jumpgate.
the truth is : these guys are a carebears-pvpers.
old players have better ships and equipments so they will own the newbies. that's make they feel strong.
As a hardcore RPker,
I found actually in VO the best MMORPG space-ship game.
vendetta online has a better graphic
but actually jumpgate 2 has a lot more content. its an old game (2001) that's why it has more content.

The same guys behind Jumpgate (NetDevil) are the guys working on NCSoftīs "Auto Assault", the post-apocalyptic MMO, they are good
Aha. Yeah, the "No Mac Support" is a deal-killer for me as well, unsurprisingly.
But wait! When I get my Intel-Inside Mac... I'll be able to try this stuff out.

I'll have to wait with Intel Mac until Adobe gets their act together with Creative Suite for Intel Processor.
Mneh... no OSX port. Where's the point?
No Mac Version?
I can't stand a game wich just ignore the best platform ever... (DON'T FEEL FREE TO COMMENT THIS! ITS MY OPINION ! and no one will change it =p )
[/EDIT]
they have a cockpit view ! O.o
/me wants a cockpit view aswell... ( since now 3 years :-( )

But... it's such an UGLY cockpit view! It looks like it was drawn on with colored pencils.
Yeah, those graphics are pretty rough. The ships resemble the cheap cardboard cut-out of the moth I tape to my hog to fool the pie rats.
Also, why Jumpgate apparently does have an abundance of strange alien enemies, none of them float in the blackness of space grabbing passing ships with gargantuan tentacles and rending minds with the ancient evil cyclopean stare of a massive unblinking eye. So what would be the point in playing?

Yuck. While JG2 may have some more content, Vendetta looks like it was planned out 10x better and supports Macs and Linux, a true bonus.
I think both games have their strengths and weaknesses
VOīs 3D engine seens to be much better than Jumpgateīs one, and, of course it supports mac and linux, but, I havenīt really played Jumpgate, and, most of its ugglyness could be a result of poor models and textures
Jumpgate also has some more years (I think it was released in 2001)

Jumpgate certainly has more diversity of equipment.
1. 'ECM' evasions / countermeasures (missle jammers, anti-radar devices)
2. 'M.O.D.x.' items (miscellaneous, like mining enhancement, fuel scoop, target computer)
3. Radar upgrades, some of which consume power
4. energy model - Capacitors, Engines, and Powerplants (based on Watts and Joules)
It also has an explicit list of commodities required for manufacture of various items
(even if you dont have crafting this information can help trading)

Yeah, this game is really in severe need of a lot more items, especially now that we have drops.
More types of bots, with more types of weapons.
Non-weapon, Non-battery upgrades. AKA Electronics slots
(Man do we need this)
And honestly, make the items rare enough, and you can do whatever you like with them, they'll be balanced by virtue of the sheer fact that dying with them on will very likely result in not having them anymore.
