That's what I told my buddy, anyway.

I figured I'd swing by and post a "hello" thread. I was searching for other MMORPGs that I can play on my Mac. I'm quite the World of Warcraft junkie, but sometimes you need something a tad different.

I've just about used up my trial time and I can feel the credit card about to leap out of the wallet. (grin)

Seriously, a fun game so far. I can see myself getting lost in space for great chunks o' time.

And if we're lucky, I'll drag a few guildies from WoW along for the fun.

I'm flying as Gribble, in the UIT now.

welcome, friend :D

...here, have a seat!!

(thurisaz quietly creeps behind richterm to shut the door, locks it, and swings the heavy steel bar into place across it)

..oh, what was that noise??

no, you just stay there, I'll go fetch you a glass of our *special* Kool-Aid... :D :D

darnit, what is it about UIT that all the new players love so much? :S

They don't even get to take part in much of the cool stuff like BS without having to gain a bunch of standing...
May 25, 2006 richterm link
Skimming the lore, I picked the UIT because it seemed that they were more "neutral"...so if I decided to swing one way or another towards Itani or Serco, I could.

Or something.

Hey, there are many more character slots on my account. (grin)

Yay make an Itani one!
[ITAN] loves mac users... we even made a poster, somewhere...

OK that one's still [IA]-branded... hrm. OR YOU COULD HAVE THIS:

I think the second one captures the essence of [ITAN] more, tho... Hehe.

Welcome to VO, Gribble. If you join the Serco I look forward to fighting along side you. If you join the Itani I look forward to having you on the opposite end of my Nuets. >:D

Awesome, thanks for all the warm replies.

Since I'm stuck at work, I'll ask a question:

What happens when you die? I had my ship down to 2% last night, warped back to station to get it fixed at that point. (grin)
May 25, 2006 Galaxy613 link
IF you die your current ship is destoryed and your person is teleported from the brink of death to the last station you marked as your home station. Hopefully you have money to buy a new ship or have extra ships laying around to quickly hop back into. If all else fails you can get the free ship and start again.

Thanks Galaxy.

As a WoW player, that should annoy me. (WoW's death penalty is, shall we say, rather light)

However, I noticed that I already have over 8,000 credits and my current ship retailed (with gear) for around 1,000. Not too bad.
May 25, 2006 moldyman link
Most players have about a million credits. And most ships do not go over 40k fully equipped. So, it is rather light at the moment.

Oh, and welcome to the community :)

Currently it's very easy to amass wealth, so death has little sting. This may change.
May 25, 2006 richterm link
Are there "rare drops" as it were...gear that you can only get from certain enemies or missions? If your ship explodes and is destroyed, can you buy or replace this gear somehow?
May 25, 2006 Person link
richterm, it's funny that you ask that. Weapon drops were implimented less than a month ago. There is no way to BUY back special weapons when you die, but sometimes they may either be salvaged from the reckage of your ship or re-acquired in the same way they were gotten the first time.

Here is a list of what can be dropped:

-Players weapons, batteries and cargo
dropped by: players

-Hive positron blaster
dropped by: hive queens

-Hive gatling turret
dropped by: hive queens

-Hive fast-charge battery
dropped by: hive queens and some assault bots

-Samoflange, (no, really! :P)
dropped by: Leviathons, (I always spell it wrong)

-Law Enforcement Nuetron Blasters
dropped by: station guards and strike forces

-Seeker Missile Launchers
dropped by: aerna seekers

-[Orun] Ion blasters
dropped by: Orun collectors

ANY weapon that someone is carrying has a chance of not exploding with the reckage of their ship, and if you can get your hands on weapons and batteries dropped by high-level players or bots, it is well worth the trouble.

Thanks Calder!

Based on my playing last night, the in-game help I received from several players (but especially the time and good advice from Ecka Estenk, thank you sir!) the reading I've done today and the clear progress that is being made on the game...I've now subscribed.

Excellent! Thanks for supporting Vendetta. This is a unique opportunity to share in building a great game.

Regarding "rare drops": aside from the drops described by Person, there are also mission trees in development that will help you gain rare items.

Tried http://oolite.aegidian.org/ ?

Anyways, back on topic, (well, it is anyways, kinda! :P) welcome to the wacky world of VO! And as an ex Elite player myself, the first piece of advice I could give is STOP ROLLING SO MUCH! heheh oh yeah, and run if I target ye, whatever nation you are :) unless your willing to shoot me some funds of course :>

Oh, yeah, and this game is like, ever evolving, so stick around for the fun! And check out the race tracks in Sedina B5 D5 E5 F5 and H5, and maybe G5 if you fancy being lost in a maze for hours! hehe
