That's for a national image, not a character sketch. We would like to do the latter, but it's involved and still a ways off.

And yes, it updates to the new client on startup.. the new client is required to play (we did a protocol change).

I've been enjoying the new client quite a bit. Thanks! I've got a
few suggestions to lay down for consideration for future versions:

* The preset ship settings are fantastic. They would be even cooler
if we could name them ourselves. I.e. rather than "Preset Ship 1",
"Preset Ship 2", you might have "N2 Rev C", "Gauss Vult",
"Posihog". This has already been suggested, but I thought it
deserved repetition.

* In the listing of items (I remember ships being the one that
caused my note), right justifying the costs would make the list
easier to read.

* It seems like some things are double-clickable, and some aren't.
Here are some ideas for things that would be great as
double-clickable:

* When assigning weapons to ports, if you double-click on a port,
the selected weapon is assigned.

* Double-clicking on an item in the purchase or sell menu will
purchase/sell.

Just some ideas for your consideration. Thanks.

And, umm...

* Different hail messages for different characters (I don't want my straight-laced Itani to start transmitting "Yarr! Dump all ye cargo!" if I've forgotten to reset the hail message after switching characters).

thebrier: I'd be cautious about having double-click sell items. I don't want to accidentally double-click on my Samoflange stockpile, for example.

thebrier, um, did you MISS the 8 (EIGHT!) betas we went thru before the production client? I'm just saying, any one of the 8 (EIGHT) beta discussion threads might have been great to bring that up in.

Heh. Although I like your ideas because I mentioned all of them throughout the testing of the 8 (EIGHT) beta clients since Jan 15th.

Suggestion:

I know this really isnt a major issue, but tis something vendetta doesnt have which basically every MMORPG on the planet does have. "THE OVERALL LEVEL" now havng this is helpful in just a few ways, for example if you target someone, in the basic information in the upper right hand corner, display the lvl of the targeted person/npc.

For example my levels are currently

8/8/5/11/9 and that would translate into OL: 41
now lets say the queens levels are
30/40/40/0/0 or OL:110

Instead of having to use k on everything in sight, I would already know that whatever im targeting is either lower or higher than I am, and what would be a good match for my current level, And if I truely needed to know the specfic's of the targeted persons levels then I would use K to find them out. And if not a Overall level then at least display the Combat Level, just something rather than nothing,

Anyway just an Idea,

Yeah, some way of being able to quickly get an idea of a possible opponent's difficulty would be good. We've talked about it before, but hadn't settled on a specific solution. I'll think about it.

There you go. Multiple-character hail ability.

w00t! Resuscribed and VO is better then before! I'm really liking the re-worked Station Menu, tho it took some time getting used to because it seems in heriently awkward, but it's good! I also went and did a convoy, really kool stuff. There must've been like 50 some AI that went on that mission with me, and it got me to level 2 combat. :D I also saw one of those TPG Frigates, sweet stuff!

According to Chikira, I'm OL 8 now!

Miharu: I meant without resorting to hackery, or having to press buttons when I login to make sure it's all set to the right character. :S
Mar 22, 2006 MSKanaka link
working in the wgaf.cfg is not hacking, and you only bind one key to switch character hail sets.

EDIT: I thought I'd share with you guys (especially the devs) this sentiment I had from this evening:
[Wed Mar 22 23:29:10 2006] 28b4f0[100] <Miharu> ...
[Wed Mar 22 23:29:27 2006] 28b4f0[100] <Miharu> If this client turns on the StationInBackground setting ONCE MORE...(1)
[Wed Mar 22 23:29:45 2006] 28b4f0[100] <Miharu> ... i'm gonna have to hack the client to hard-wire that feature to off. Permanently.
[Wed Mar 22 23:29:51 2006] 28b4f0[100] <Miharu> Grrrrrrrr...

Yes, I'm kidding about hacking the client. Yes, this bug really pisses me off, mostly because I can't change the colors of the station interface, and therefore can't give it a color that makes the station in the background less visible while the chat is more visible. Blue on blue == impossible to see with station in background.

(1) - without my permission, and most certainly in direct violation of the settings I had put in the Graphics options panel.

^ This bugs me too. I like to keep it off. With it ON, my station fps drops like a rock, and it becomes difficult to control the cursor arrow.

MSKanaka: When exactly is it reenabling that mode? I can't get it to happen here. Is there some problem loading your wgaf.cfg file? If VO stops due to some error before loading the station rendering flag it will default to on. That's all I can think of that would cause the problem.

Ohhh. it looks like it reenables the setting if you change the display resolution and you're logged in.
Or if you change the font size.
[edit] if these were the reasons your station render flag got re-set then I fixed it.

Yo Devs:
Thanks for the new client. I love it. I see improvements all over the place. It really
is fantastic. I have a bit to learn: I have not had time to play the various betas, but
THANK YOU !!!

I have noticed one small thing so far: If you take a Cargo mission and agree to take
a delivery, you will not see the cargo in your ship's hold until after you launch. I got
in the habit of checking for cargo before taking off a long time ago when cargo for
missions *sometimes* didn't get loaded into your ship. Not a really critical thing
unless you have a timed mission and are looking for cargo before taking off....

I clicked out a nav route while in-station. When I launched, the arrows that go by the distance meter to indicate a jump is needed were not there.

Hitting n for nav map and again to close it made the arrows return.

Ray:

Yeah, I think that's what's causing it. I love the option and all, but it's just impossible to really get a use out of while the chat colors are the same as the station interface. I guess I could change the colors for the commnet chat in config.ini temporarily.

thebrier, um, did you MISS the 8 (EIGHT!) betas we went thru before the production client? I'm just saying, any one of the 8 (EIGHT) beta discussion threads might have been great to bring that up in.

Yes, LeberMac, I DID. Am I barred from taking time out to offer some suggestions because I wasn't involved in the 8 (EIGHT!) betas?

People sure have gotten testy around here.
Mar 23, 2006 jexkerome link
LeberMac's just off his tequila.

Back on topic, I find no problem with the station background, either FPS-wise or readability-wise. I would say that's proof positive that Wintel > Mac, but I don't want to start a flamewar...

I have yet to find a single bug, too. Which is kinda annoying since everyone else seems to be finding some...

I FEEL LEFT OUT!!!

Yeah, minor bug, nothing mind shattering or whatnot, but sometimes the characterinfo pops up with the HUD still in display. I have a screenie which someone knows how to host

This summarizes my problem: http://www.ladyofthecake.com/mel/space/sounds/radar.wav

On the more descriptive side, when I have a ship selected, it either takes a lot of time to- or frequently looses- the ship type string.
