Perhaps that mechanism can be something similar to what now happens with queens and their healer attendants. For instance, a Cruiser-class ship jumps into a station sector smoking from a bit of "Lecter love." The cruiser's captain makes a ship-to-station call, via the new UI, requesting a repair service. The maintenance crew comes out in trusty buses or wraiths and gets to work with repair beams. There ya go. No need for fancy docking.

my point was that it still needs developement before they can be added. It's not like they can just turn them on and be done. That's all. I actually agree that there should be little healer bots that fly out of the stations, HAC's are floating stations, dry docks are an ok idea, but having them shuttle stuff back and forth and having healer bots is a way easier way to implement it fast.
Or if the devs are kinda lazy (no offense) they can just change the coding of the excisting healing hive bots which heal the queen so they just have to make sure that the hiev bots don't shoot us and they heal the cap ship :)
I agree with johnhawl. And add that while "drydocked", they are invulnerable to attack and movement as well as incapable of shooting.
Maybe the cargo ship should be named the Corvette, in honor of the EV Nova ship, and also because it looks so resembling.
I like the idea of dry docking with shuttle bots and repair bots to handle those tasks. it's a very realistic solution and seems as though it would really add to game play... in fact, perhaps you don't need a dry dock at all and bots can come to you anywhere within the sector, or maybe within a perimeter of sectors. if bots don't make it back, you don't get paid for the cargo...

I was just about to guess that HAC stood for Huge A__ Capship.
