I would just like to know whats currently at hand with the production of new ships, from what ive gathered in conversations with Incarnate on the test server the ships weve seen from luis such as, the Raptor, and TGP capital ship we can expect soon after the new UI is finished testing, great to hear and welcomed news.
However I do have a question about three other ships in particular they are
The Trident light frigate:
And the two ships annouced in fairly recent new update.
*fighter*
*cargo ship*
What is the current status of these ships and more specifically will be we seeing the Trident Light frigate in game after the new UI is de-bugged, or was the Trident cancelled awhile back?
Thanks in advance,
Chikira

Oh I thought they scrapped the TPG capship in favor of the Raptor, so only the one ship is forthcoming.
If we actually had FIVE ships incoming that would be rather kickass.

None of the ships have been scrapped. The TPG capship and Trident are too big to undock, and will therefore be introduced when we have the appropriate interfaces. I don't know what the lastest count is, but we have *more* than 5 new ships in various states of development. None of them can be released, however, until the new client is in production.
Thanks momerath, I thought it was a interface issue and its good to know that after the new UI is finished off we should start to be seeing several new ships making there way into Vendetta.
Another question, have you guys been able to fly the ships on the test server, do they run besides the docking issues?

I got to fly a Trident for about twenty minutes before Raybondo caught me :)
Let me say this: It feels perfect for a ship of its class, and I could immediately tell where it fit in the greater scheme of things. It feels about four times as heavy as a Moth, if you can imagine that, and takes a while to get up to speed, but is agile enough to bank and turn like a fighter, but not nearly enough to backroll or do all of those cool things fighters do.
Another thing I noticed was that the Trident gives purpose to Flight Assist mode. Ships of that size are actually much easier to fly like that.
With fighters, I find that FA makes me sacrifice maneuverability, so I turn it off. The HAC is really too big to maneuver in combat without some sort of planning interface to plot where you'll go before you go there.
The Trident however is much easier to fly with FA. The assist handles the mundane stuff like making sure you don't under/oversteer while cornering and lets you concentrate on lining up your attack run.
Momerath:
Flying the HAC gave me an idea for a control interface for it. I suggest that the HUD project a straight line in front of your ship on the current heading. Moving the mouse around moves the line, and rolling the scroll wheel zooms the line's endpoint closer or further from the origin of your ship. Clicking would place a waypoint, and the plottting line would then extend from that waypoint forward. Right-clicking would pull up the last-placed waypoint. Throttle would be handled on the keyboard. Of course, this would sacrifice direct gun control, but that is to be expected on a ship of the HAC's size.

I had the exact same thought, ctishman. However I'd recommend having the POV facing inward toward your own ship. This would afford a better tactical view of your own ship's attitude, turret positions, proximity to other objects etc...

Good idea. Perhaps holding a modifier key of some sort would change the mouse from controlling the line's endpoint to controlling the camera. With the modifier key depressed, you could orbit your ship, and zoom in/out from it with the wheel. If you zoom in far enough, you drop into first-person mode. Zoom a little bit out again, and you click back into external view.
Except a1k0n already said that the primary plan is a Homeworld-style interface for large capital ships, with the additional option of direct thruster control for dedicated pilots.
I would like the Homeworld-style interface a lot. In fact, I would like it for ALL ships, and only pop into 1st person mode when in combat.
Ohh...imange these ships fighting in B8 =D This woul really 'change' vendetta :)
I've taken down a trident before, they are pretty cool looking. There was one day last year that there were 2 HACs with 2 tridents escorting them in B8, that was a great battle. Pre-beam weapons.
HOWW I WANNA FLY ONE!
momerath42, thanks for the reassuring tidbits about these ships still being in the pipeline. I was beginning to wonder myself.
At some point in the past, we were told that the Raptor would be available in-game before the new UI as it was not dependant on it.
It's been a while now and given the state of the beta, can we still expect to see the Raptor before VO 2.0 or is beta advanced enough to skip that?
(aka, I'm not pressuring for a quicker release of 2.0 but I'd like to have an idea of when we can expect that ship to be available).
Another question relate to the timeframe for these new ship (Trident, Destroyer & friends). They were dependant on the new UI but now it seems they're dependant on UI that does not yet exist (beyond what beta provides). What's the expected timeframe for that?
If anything, buying one of those ships that "can't undock" due to their sizes, how about just having it "delivered" in your sector when you buy one? Aka, buy one, it automagically warps in, undock the station and then dock the ship?
Some guilds have a good amount of cash to re-inject in the universe's economy!

a warp undock is fine to start with but what happens when you need to repair your ship and it can't dock, there needs to be a mechanism for that before they can be put in-game.
Well, I would imagine that the HAC and such will never be able to dock. Be it a drydock attached to the side of the station or whatever, but I can't really picture something the same size as our largest stations just entering a dock somewhere and dissappearing...
Rogue... the SAME size as our largest stations? HA!
The HAC will hump any station! They are all smaller!
Oi... one more thing to look out for... Capship station humping...

rofl ^^
That was way off topic lol. somehow I dont't wish to picture cap ship station humping. *wonders what HAC stands for*
And roguelazer, i get your point about logical ways of docking, and I think I have an idea. For this Idea to work stations would need to hailed. As the ship approached it would request permission to dock or park so to speak, just as we do with capital ships. If the request is accepted the station then provides several strike force craft to defend the ship, however the longer your time in the station the more you'll be charged as a protecion fee.
I can see the issue arising about multiple capital ships at anyone station, and server bog downs, for that I would suggest a limiting of how many can be parked at the station. Perhaps after three ships the stations strike force resources would be undermanned and they would turn away anyone else seeking protection. During the time your docked with the station your ship would still vulnerable to attack, therefore getting in and out quickly would be key.
anyway just an idea.

HAC = Heavy Attack Cruiser. What the Capital ships are.
Nice :) And you cuold talk to the station like the marshal..but however this is one little problem...would this mean that the stations have to have HP? which means they can be dystoryed.? tee hee heeh ^^
