@fooz: "slow fighters" Currently they are not slow fighters, they can turn and strafe well enough to keep up with a valk in combat. The only way they are slow is in their turbo thrust.

In today's PVP, a ship's combat effectiveness seems to be based on its thrust/agility, everything else is just a tiebreaker (okay, a bit of exaggeration). So I fully expect a brawler like the Prom to have enough thrust to be a match for valks.

When I said slow, I did mean the turbo thrust/drain. It's lack of mid/long-term speed makes it limited to consenual pvp.

actually, seeing as it uses flares, the turbo thrust is not a major prob, you can turboflare a fleeing opponent.

I've never even been hit by a turboflaring valk while fleeing ('cept in a moth). Anyone paying attention can avoid the flares from a prom.

Here's my rather odd take on it. (And no, I hate proms... I like having 2 MPs on my taur).

Proms are the best combat ship... Serco racial identity.
Valks are fast, and effective against most targets... I don't get how this fits tani's.
Mauds kind of suck, and aren't really that cost efficient or good at trading... How does this fit UIT?

Racial identity, it's a two-word phrase used to try to justify the advantages once race has over another. Inevitably, it leads to ZOMG!!! NERF NERF NERF!!! Make the Maud and valk fit their races identities... and the complaining might stop.

Right now, the only nation specific ship that meets the racial identity is the Prom.

Racial identity works fine... as long as the ships fit that identity... and if they do... then the person who expects to be able to have a valk fit the same role as a prom is quite foolish.

Does this make sense to anyone?

icbm: Yep, makes sense to me. I don't expect the Valk to fill the same role as a prom. But if it's gonna fill its racial identity, it should be able to at least compete with a prom in terms of combat ability.

The valk fits the Itani racial identity. If you look very carefully at its fuselage, you will see that its nice round shape mimics the bald heads of the itani monks.

It's also made up of the purest snow.

which is why it crunches so nicely.

The Prom fits the slugging match kind of fighting role... think heavy-weight boxer...

so... could the Valk somehow fit the martial artist or dancer type of role? Technically... the cent would fit much better as the itani special. Dontcha think?

the valk and the IBG represent 2 differentstyals of martial arts.

The valk is very agile, and fast, and it packs a decent punch. it is a balanced combat ship, with no Hugly crippling weakneses and no Hugely uber advantages.

The IBG trades firepower for agility and is more like the stunt ships described in the backstory.

the fact that there aren't any ships that make the Cent less desierable that a Valk is mainly due to the lack of beam weapons as fighter/bomber sised weaponry a cent can't dodge it, but a valk may survive the blase even if it hits (note i'm refering to a theopreticle beam weaonj not the ones on the HACs)

the maud doesn't fit UIT very well at all

Everyone got bored of the easy pk's with gauss Defy.

Yeah it got to the point where when I came back after my prolonged "absence" this summer, no one would fight me in my single gauss Rev C. Well, except the vets who would kick my ass anyway.

It's like there's this stigma attatched to fighting with gauss now. Dunno why there's no stigma attached to Prom Jocks with AGT's.
