Hmmm, id use VoIP, but not a public server, only thing it would be good for, imho, is a group event, or a gank squad, or simaler, using VoIP to replace 100 ect would get annoying (and old) fast.

it really depends on if I find the time to set up teamspeak/whathaveyou on my comp, but I'm definately up for the idea.

Ok, Assassin (my roommate) has said that we will not be hosting the server, the main reason being that we do not have enough bandwidth to support it.

I have 80 GB of bandwidth, but my webhost got nervous when I used the words "TeamSpeak" and "MMORPG" in the same sentence. So I can't host one guys. Sorry.
Seems like there are a BUNCH of sites willing to sell you TS servers for like $5-$10 a month, though. Perhaps that is an option?
