The B-8 Experience

so last night i finally decided to try some PVP- even though i have found my nitche (not nietsche) in other realms.
So i plop myself into a TPG station next the the Latos/Sedina WH- have found that the TPG atlas-x is a nice choice for me- not too expensive- moves well- a little difficult to hit at times too-
i enter b-8 with a sweaty hand and a racing heart- i find a few good guys and a few bad guys i hear are on their way(im itani, you do the math) - with my eyes glued to the radar- i see a red dot- and so i talk some smack- and here we go-- never in my life have i seen so many REV-c's in one place- so that is the ship i have really learned to fight against-
i dont suck as bad as i thought- i was 50% for the night- well, no thanks to shape and his 1 shot wonder hornet with ADV rails-
--here is the thing that got me--there was MUCH honor in B-8 that night- no ganking/no running (except for a SCAR lady that wont be named **cough**bunny**cough**) everyone hailed for a fight/ even one dude that could have been jacked- wasnt beacause he was watching SHAPE and NERDE tear into eachother-
moral of the story- there were some honor issues a month or so back- it seems things have taken a turn for the better---well, at least for that one hot night in august- behind the controls of my SUPER TUBE(the atlas x)

Congrats Mik on the losss of your B-8 virginity!

I was on last night and died repeatedly in B-8 with MUCH honor. Hehe. But I fought Kix to 40% or so in matching ships, so my "rust" is flaking off.

Damn AGT's and flares still piss me off.

Picked a great ship Mik. TPG Atlas X is the Altas of DOOOM, and is completely lethal in the right hands (I suggest AGT and flare combo with FC). I've gone whole nights in the Atlas of Doom without ever losing a fight. Good psychological advantage too, no one expects to get pwned by an Atlas.

Welcome to the fight! I hope you retain your honor for many battles to come.

Meh, I think I caught you as you logged out, but TPG type X = the pwn, I prefer the maud version, but meh, you were hard to hit, nice one mik.

I use the X-Type for my in-combat medic ship, great little bucket of bolts. =)

Hummm... speaking as (probably) the guy that "could have been jacked- wasnt beacause he was watching SHAPE and NERDE tear into each other"... I must say that I witnessed SEVERAL really great fights that night, and watching them became somewhat of a game in itself. I even met (and dueled) a char from the past that I remembered from my growing-up days... it really was a great time. Thanks for sharing mik...

i wasn't there...i always miss the good stuff...

well mik, we really do have a great bunch of players here. sadly, it's the few rotten ones that spoil it all and make those trips to b8 less pleasant.

Cheers to the good ones out there!

the "others" are ni...(I won't do it...)

Ok, cause I was there too watching fights and had a few bogies behind me as well. Just wanted to see if it was me or someone else. Thx.

Thinking there is any honor in the universe is faulty. The serco and Itani are at war. I feel totaly justified shooting a Serco anywhere I see them with no warning. And most of them do the same to me.

In conclusion if you are a Serco and you see me prepare to die. This is your only warning :)

i have recently had the oposit experiance in B8. most pilots attack without warning, and somethimes even when i'm stationary not maying attantion.

this isn't a complaint, if i wanted to be safe i'd stay out of grey space, and since my character is a pacifist i don't mind the excuse to "defend" myself rather than have to start the fight myself. just an observation, regarding honor, that many people preach so much about.

Hehe, Lord. "most pilots attack without warning, and somethimes even when i'm stationary not maying attantion".

Well, that's why I also said in my post: "and watching them became somewhat of a game in itself". You can (and seems like you do) expect to be fired upon in B8. That is a simple fact. (Especially when you aren't paying attention.) But that is also part of the fun, IMHO.

I was spared several "ejections" simply by saying - "one sec, watching this fight". And there were some truly remarkable fights that night. I wish we had a gallery where we *could* watch, as there was plenty of popcorn already. :)

Heck, I don't mind a quick trip back home once in a while if I can watch that kind of action. There are some great pilots out there.

While I probably shouldn't, I generally expect people to respect PvP etiquette while they are in B8. I realize that sounds maybe a little snobby, but the truth is, there are certain players in this game I greatly respect, and all of them have respect for other people in combat. In my opinion it's bad form to interupt and obvious 1v1 battle or attack someone who is sitting still without a hail. Obviously, there are group fights and wars going on, but there are also great 1v1 battles happening that a lot of other people love to watch. As we've seen in the past it only takes one person to ruin it.

In these trying times the only fight i won't interupt is a duel. anything else prepare to die serco scum :)

i hope no one took my post as a complaint as that wasn't how i ment it to come out, i just wanted to temper the "everyone is a perfect gentelmen" vibe i got from the previous posts. I didn't expect to be fired on (i had gotten lazy from the old BLACK days where 4 people would sit around doing nothin or watching one fight and everyone hailed you and/or fired a warning shot before actualy trying to kill you) or i wouldn't have been sitting still, but i don't expect everyone to hold to any kind of etiquet in grey space. Lawlesness begets manerlessness, and everyone will finde their own "code of honor", that's just part of the game.
Sep 06, 2005 mikmouse24 link
hmm- i agree that HONOR is somewhat relative- i agree with J. Bess- we ARE at war- and a duel is probabbly the only fight that should technically be "agreed upon" But b-8 seems to BE the dueling ground- so whether someone tells me they are gonna fight me- or jsut sucka punches me- i have no complaint- I have a radar jsut liek everyone els- and will watch for my Red Blips
Sep 06, 2005 johnhawl218 link
Change the duel color from red to some other color so that you can tell more easily when someone is in a duel.

But I have to say, if you come to B8 and fight in front of the wormhole and someone interupts your duel, you have no one to blame but yourselves. There are 256 sectors per system and at least half of those sectors are completely empty and perfect for a private fight.
Sep 06, 2005 Shapenaji link
That's true john, but often people like to watch, and if you interrupt a match like that, you are doing a disservice.

Now, its perfectly "legal" to do so, and I generally keep an eye on my radar for people who would, It's still kind've an unfriendly thing to do. So my advice would be, unless you are actually trying to produce frustration (which in the concept of this game, may in fact be acceptable), don't do it.
