I downloaded the game and started playing it yesterday and I was just wondering if there's a opening movie for the game? Or do I have to go buy the actual game in the stores to get that?
Currently, there are no in-game movies. Several players have made videos of gameplay, though.
You missed the opening scene?
Awwww maaan, you missed SOOOO much!
There's so much awesome info in it you just can't do without!

No, there isnt any opening scene, although it would be pretty sweet :) I believe this is because the deveolpers want to keep the download as small as possible - there have been quite a few community projects like http://vendetta.crawl-forever.com/ (which should be added to community sites, but I forgot to send the mail, doh!) that aim to make a small trailer, or show off while botting :) ect.
This is old, but *shrug*

No streaming, and dl time might be a little high ;p (unless someone wants to bother moving it to crawl forever)

Unfortunatly the site isnt run by me, its run by vshjaar, but if you do want him to host a video, you can email him with the address at the bottom of the page.
Ahh ok thanks guys. Opening movies are one of my favorite things to look forward to on a new game. But its ok, the game play itself makes up for it. I've been waiting for a MMO version of Privateer since well Privateer came out! Man that's been a long time.
hey yoda what was the name of the track you put on your bored wile botting vid? i quite liked it and i'm not usuly into rockish kind of tracks.
p.s sorry little off topic

This would be a really cool community project that we all could help with. Why don't we spare Guild the hassle and come of with a short storyboard of a cool intro movie, have players act as standin's, and film with fraps or something like it, a small intro movie that tried to tie in as much of the back story as possible, of the last few years of the back story, and have a narator for the highlights of the entire story while the video battle scenes are playing in the background.
Maybe, if we can make it small enough, they could add it to the app to play on launch, the first time you play and have a replay button for all of us that have been playing for a while. One of the coolest parts of all games in the intro movie, and we all know that Guild has better and more pressing issues to deal with.

Jerk - Sucked In :)
Hey, maybe one day they might even make the /demorec command work, and in sure they could make a small, but neat intro using the game engine then :)

I would really love to help out with this...
I've had some film classes in college and I know a fair amount about film as a narrative medium... pacing, composition, frame of reference etc... Check the movie link I posted as a sample. If you like the style perhaps you'd trust me to edit the film.
As you can see, the problem I have is that my computer has crappy graphics... with the screen cap app I've got no r-glow, low texture, and the framerate still suffers. I love editing and I've got a great program to do it with (iMovie 2), but I need good film clips to edit... and talented camera men.
First we'd need a storyboard, then we'd start collecting footage and uploading it to one or two yahoo briefcases, then I (or anyone else) could put together a cut and submit it for peer review.
I'm thinking 1 general intro regarding the exile from Earth, the split between the three human factions, and the birth of the Hive (public enemy #1)... to (conceivably) be played before the title screen, and then 1 movie for each faction that goes into more detail after the player has chosen his/her nation to send the player into the world with a sense of background and purpose.
Each clip should definitely be no longer than 2 minutes, and probably no bigger then 10-20 megs each.
Again, I know there's a lot of talent in the community but I just wanted to say I really, really love editing film... I could stay up until 3 a.m. going through hours of footage to get the perfect 10-second shot if need be. Just wanted to offer my services.
If we can get a team together we can start talking scripts, storyboards, soundtracks etc! :D

I'm down for any and all of it. I too have iLife'05 and have the sound/video editing software. Have taken storyboarding, and such is school. I too suffer from no r-glow and poor fps so I'm not a candidate for videographer but I'd be more then happy to help with soundtrack, boards, actor, etc.
Ok a little off topic now...being that I"m still new to the game (2nd day now) and I just read the backstory, there's no mention of this "Hive" you guys talk about.
So umm I'm a bit lost on what you all mean by "Hive".

The Hive is a group of robotic ships. They were originally designed to mine for humans, but at one point some where accidentally launched with incomplete programming, and they went rogue. On the Beginner and Advanced Combat missions, it's the Hive bots that you kill. Up until recently, they have just been fairly static, with certain bots in certain sectors, and respawnin immediately after they are destroyed. But over the last month or so the devs have been doing a lot of work making the Hive more interesting. You can read about how they're making the Hive in the design wiki, here: http://design.vendetta-online.com/wiki/index.php?title=Hive
o.O Thanks for the link. Nice, this game is becoming more and more interesting as I'm researching (albeit slowly since I'm at work :D). Thanks everyone for the responses. So far this community has been great, both in game and out of. A far cry from the other MMO's I've played. I'm sure there's a few black sheeps here and there though. :)
OOo OOOoo /me raises hand!!!! :0)
me puts his hand up after a replay/demorec function is implimented :P
not sheeps, SHAPES, SHAPES!
lol
lol :P
