At approxmately 10:52 PM PDT (1:52 AM EDT) the impactor component of Deep Impact successfully collided with the comet Tempel 1.

Players celebrated the event with a special show in Odia M-14, consisting of a probe impact reenactment and a lovely show of Avalon Torpedoes, a weapon not seen since the days of Vendetta Test 3.2.x, being rained upon a large cluster of ice crystals.

Nerde Verde, a council member of the Vipers, was tonight's probe. Defense Ship 3 (FiReMaGe) provided the main entertainment with his Superbus full of Avalons.

This event was organized on the fly, and was executed wonderfully given the time frame it took.

The "staff" of the event would like to thank everyone who participated, especially the guides that helped with the avalons.

Well, even if I hadn't been stuck at work, I still would have missed this one. Just moved, no internet access yet. /me cries.

MAN, I was out actually seeing the comet. It was no fun, neither. People got sick on the way up, throwing up, bleh. Then the city's glare blocked the impact from sight, It stunk.

/me agrees with Beolach You guys always have the fun things while Im at work booo hoooo.

And in honor of the event before I logged I made deep impact using a valk going 240ms on a roid in Odia.

Wish I had stayed around for the fire works though...

On one of those you can see him saying, that he'll get a closer look at the explosions. Result of his decision is visible on the last pic. :-P

Actually, it was players that organized it. In particular, ViciousNanite and myself were the ringleaders of the event, getting FiReMaGe to get out the avalons and getting the word out about the event. I apologize for not putting it on the boards... but the whole thing was planned in the space of about an hour before it happened, and I did not think enough people would even see an announcement on the boards until after the event had occurred.
