Just a reminder that, while there is a chat filter for "conversational" offensive language, it is not permissable to direct verbal abuse in the form of offensive language or "real world" slurs. It's fine to call somebody a "filthy Serco", but NOT okay to call somebody a "f***ing ***hole".

Individuals who insist on verbally abusing others will be warned and then may be subject to being muted. We do keep track of warnings and mutings.

While we're on the subject of respect: When a guide politely asks you to tone it down, please just tone it down.

...and if we wait long enough the coal buried in our backyard will become a diamond!

Idealism is false hope. And I mean that in the most optimistic way possible.

But seriously, you can't just expect people to be nice cause we tell them to.

And "just ignoring them" doesn't usually help. If one is called annoying computer nerd with horrible acne, one may choose to ignore it, but it still sticks with them.

IMO, this is fighting and unwinnable battle. We're pulling a Sisyphus here, cause as soon as someone comes on this message board and posts an anti-nation complaint right next to this thread, the rock'll tumble all the way back.

I try to be nice, but I get frustrated with idiocy and blind ingnorance. And it was a particular incident with a player that drove me away from the game for a few weeks. I prolly shouldn't have gotten as mad, but sometimes one can't help it.

So yes, all in all I would like to see more respect. But it's real life here...there's no Aretha Franklin sitting monitoring the chats.

I'd like to suggest my penalty box idea. Devwarp repeatedly naughty people to a "prison" system where there is one station that only offers guvbusses, and every sector is filled with Orne Guardians. Even the station sector. All the asteroids are 100% silicate ore and there are no traderbots.

Plus, that way the guides can look cool and say "OK, that's ONE DAY in the box!" And, poof, the offender goes to the prison system.

very nice lebermac but if that thing happen to me i'll just log out and in the day after...

so it would be better to put it for some hours ( like the 8hour trial ) like that if you log out and came back the month after you'll still in the prison system =p

and i think u'ill think twice before telling something bad on 100 again

true kwel idea lebermac very nice!

We've actually discussed something similar, although less irritating, amongst ourselves.

Okay, well, yes. I meant that it would be gametime in "THE BOX".
Even if a person left their computer on with VO running, the player would be out of everyone else's hair for the amount of hours specified. If they logged out the penalty clock would stop. They are automatically muted from all channels and furthermore cannot see any channels either. It's just them, the station, and the Orne Guardians. One penalty box per offending player, so the "inmates" can't talk to each other, either.

FM It SHOULD be irritating! Of course, as a person who may one day spend time in the box, may I suggest a "time off for good behavior" clause?

I am in agreement with Renegade, Graig, LeberMac, et.al. I missed this thread
while my computer was out for repair. More respect IS needed. I see the question:
"If we are supposed to be playing the role of enemies, why NOT be insulting or
abusive? Isn't that the way enemies act?" Well, yes and no. But, why not change
the tone of the taunts? I am reminded of the character in a Monty Python movie
who yells: "I break wind in your general direction!!!" Wouldn't using creative and
amusing taunts be MUCH better (and more fun) than resorting to scatalogical,
sexual, racial, gender based or homophobic insults? (Yes, we've seen all these
and more in-game.) Let us try to raise the level of discourse in-game and show
some respect for our friends and worthy opponents.

LOL You are assuming that I am a worthy opponent...
