hi guys last time i had an alpha beta tester complaining about the fact he doesn't know why he's still paying a game that he's getting insulted in...

>>>Just think about it...

does our roles in nations justify to hate the other HUMAN BEING playing in another nation?

Everybody got their bad moods and bad days but, just think that beside the pilot you insult is a real person that you can hurt by your rude words...

After all its only a GAME and the goal of playing a GAME is to HAVE FUN!!!! isn't it?

hope to see more respect ingame...
thx

GRAIG, People dont give a shit. That means some people. Also why the hell IS there an anger towards anoter player cause he/she is of so and so's nation? Its stupid.
May 17, 2005 GRAIG link
I won't say its stupid cause in the game story sercos hate itanis hate sercos etc...

But i think that we should let things in THAT context and remember that anyone can switch from a nation to another ( by alt )
so some ppl should think about that and try to have fun without preventing the others to have some...

There will always be people who go beyond role-playing into role-living. There will always be grievers, lamers, noobs, jerks and freaks... every online game has them, it's just a matter of tolerance, patience, and mutual respect.

And, I'm sorry, but if someone's insulted by some person they don't know on the other side of the continent through a video game, they should probably try and get a little more secure about their self. Getting offended over ignorance is how all bad things in the world start.

Still is a bit off respect to much to ask while enjoying a game?
May 17, 2005 Spellcast link
actually renegade

YES!

in a logical nice world, no it wouldnt be too much to ask, but this is the real world, and the fact is that some people are just mean, vicious, stupid, ignorant and crude.

The sooner everyone comes to terms with that fact and stops taking it personally, the better off we all will be.
May 17, 2005 Renegade ++RIP++ link
Well I don't agree...

On the forum we also ask for a BE NICE statement, then why can't the same BE NICE statement be a part of the gamemechanics?

Or is posting on a forum not part of a real world?

Like I said, a little respect... it goes a long way for us all to have fun. Even if you afterwards fall back in your twisted ways or old habits

cheers

rene it doesn't work on the forums either.. if it did we wouldnt need FM.

In game its worse because people have more emotional attachement to thier ship/cargo/charcter than they do to the words they write on the forum(in most cases)

And it doesn't matter if you agree or not, because the only person you can control is yourself. some people never learned how to control themselves, and those people will probably never show any respect.

Its just the way the world is. In general everyone needs to just grow a thicker skin.
May 17, 2005 Renegade ++RIP++ link
I agree...

but this doesn't mean that at least we can't let other people think about what they are doing... just by keeping our behaviour as we consider to be respectfull (or honourable).

But I do hope that the amjority of us agrees that having respect for each other is a nice thing. Which does not mean that I expect from everybody the same behaviour (since that is impossible).

But if you are just going to lay down your head and say well acting like an ass is no biggie and go right ahead. That in my eyes is not the message I wanna send to a community, since in my view it makes more things rotten then it actually helps.

cheers

the problem renegade is that not everyone has the same definition of respectful, and there are people who try to enforce thier version on everyone.

the problem with this is that i find those people more offensive than the ones who just dont know any better and are being crude and ignorant.

I live my life the best way i know how, and thats all I can ask from anyone else. and actually laying your head down is possibly the best thing you CAN do. dont say "its no biggie" just IGNORE it. if you dont feed the trolls eventually they starve to death.

The people who get all upset and offended, go on long rants about how rude person A was and how degrading person B acted are as much at fault as person A and person B; at least in the context of an online community.

If i see something online that offends me, (unless it is causing physical harm to another person) I just look elsewhere and try my best not to encourage that behavior, and the best way to do that is often to just forget you ever saw it, because much of the time the person who is being offensive is TRYING to get an outraged response.

May 17, 2005 Renegade ++RIP++ link
Ay that is true.

but that deos not mean that in a thread asking for respect you can't put down your opinion in the hopes that it might change somebody to a less crude personality or take note of being polite or at least respectfull.

I'm not making them change, nor am I complaining about anything, I generally try to ignore them (although emotions play also a roll in here).

And in such a thread just staitng asking for a bit of respect is in my eyes not offensive at all, I'm just trying to get them to think about how they are acting. If this behaviour doesn't change no biggie, if it does then whoopie thats cool. But like always, this is just my opinion.

cheers

Amen to that. The way I see it, What you send out is what you recieve. Act positive, and positive things will come to you, act negative and don't come crying afterworths.
I do allso beleive that the way you act in this game, tells a lot about your character and how you act or think in real life (some people dont realy dare to act how they think).

A better world starts with yourself, respect eachother, but who am I to tell?

/me takes a break from flushing the Koran down his toilet...

Yeah, I agree with all you guys. I mean, it's good to have CONTESTS between nations, etc. Getting bent out of shape over some verbal abuse is what the /ignore and /mute commands are for. I may slaughter a few Serco and then be slaughtered in return, but I still respect all you folks in the morning.

/me checks to see if the chanting mob outside is still angry...

This is a (not yet massively) multiplayer online role playing game. So, people will, and should, try to emulate various real-life roles people play. Guess what? There are assholes and ill-mannered people in real life, just as there are in this game. The difference with this game is that if you don't like them, you can kill them. Anyone whose ego is so fragile that they can't handle some random person insulting them on the internets has more issues than anyone handing out insults.

My recommendation for dealing with being insulted in a Role Playing Game without taking it personally, is to consciously think about the persona you're roleplaying, and how that persona would respond to the insult. That helps me realize that what's really happening is a fake person is insulting a fake person. Why should that be a big deal in the real world? But, in the fake world the fake people inhabit it may or may not be a big deal, and the fake people should respond appropriately.

That said, it's something else entirely when one player actually insults another player. That clearly isn't being nice, so don't do it.

I say inter-nation trash talk is part of the game, but then again there are some of us who some times take it too far, and it's in those instances when the /ignore and /mute commands are useful. I wonder how many ignore lists I'm on?

Oh, and I remember one time when the guides were around and some wiseguy began harping on another player... they shut him up quick!

Of course, we're not supposed to need "adult supervision" so yeah, a little respect is nice, but it's also useful if you can tell RPG trash talk towards your PC from real insults aimed at you.

There is a thread in this forum by the name "Be nice".
A lot has been said there.
Some ppl are not nice in real life we cannot expect them to be nice ingame.
We are all different entities with different characters, concepts of moral, different lives....etc.
Some of us who understand the concept of "be nice" ingame try to treat others with respect they deserve. Others dont, and prolly dont even understand wtf are you all bragging about.
Nobody in VO knows me as a real person so the only way others can get any opinion about me is by my actions and behaviour ingame.
And while online I try to earn their respect by acting and playing honourable.
Enough said.

I respect GRAIG's right to express himself, through roleplaying a character that hates the enemy, but if we are just going to slag each other off on 100, using what is commonly considered to be offensive language, then I think we need to reconsider whether 100 is really part of the game in roleplaying terms.
As far as I know, opposing armies in real world conflicts do not spend all their time on the radio to the "enemy" trading insults. That sort of thing is normally left to the psy-ops people, and the propagnda machines of each nation.

channel 100 should be a general chat forum intended to make the playing experience fun.

But if players are going to use it for roleplaying their hatred of the enemy, the simple answer is tune out of 100, and tune into channel 11, then you will not have to listen to the enemies insults, Allies from different nations can chat on some other designated channels such as a UIT/serco channel, and a UIT/Itani channel. I myself have had enough of 100, or at least when certain players are online.

See you on channel 11!
