User-Definable Radar Colors
We already have skins and chat colors that we can pick and choose for ourselves. Can we change the colors of the radar blips already?
I can imagine it being as simple on the user end as having more options in the [colors] area of the config.ini file. I imagine the defaults would be something like this:
radarcolors.friendly=02d505
radarcolors.hostile=ff0000
radarcolors.group=ffffff
radarcolors.cargo=ff00ff
radarcolors.mymissile=ffff00
radarcolors.theirmissile=0000ff
radarcolors.object=888888
This'd tie in really well when guildmates are marked on our radar, because we'd be able to set a "guild color" on our radar with this system.

Inspired by that. Anyway, I like this suggestion. Blue dots look better than green, easier to see. And modifying rdar colors can fit into skins more readily.

I want to add that particularly, I have an issue with the green jump point 'plus' on the radar, only because it's the same colour as friendlies, making it harder than it needs to be to spot.
If we could change the color of that particular blip to something unused, user defined or not, (like um is orange used?) I would be happy.

P.S. Now you can tell me where the hell I was supposed to post this...

I was always wondering why radar blips cannot be sorted by faction.
All green dots are very confusing sometimes especially if you have so many all POS chars with homicidal tendencies (green dots) that will sneak on unsuspecting pilot and shoot him in the back without warning.
For example, all POS UIT can sneak on any serco or itani etc.

MakeFriends only changes what ships are marked red and which are marked green.
The original suggestion was to allow more colors than just green and red.

It would be even more awesome to set specific colors/icons for individual objects or character ids.
Yes. Having access to dot-color via Lua would be excellent. I would like to be able to set dots corresponding to moths to be a different color when I'm pirating. I would also like to be able to set the color of my wingman to be different (yes I could group, but that's only good for two people. If I'm in a group of six and we're all doing the buddy system, it would be nice to see which dot is my buddy). Or I could flag particularly nasty enemies with bright orange dots.
Lots of possibilities.

Sure, thread necromancy is bad form, but still +1
At least he actually READ the prior suggestions, which is more than most of the current flock of n00bs do (or flock of n00b does, depending on perspective).

For me, this is the major flaw in VO: IFF.
It simply does not work. Red/Green is almost meaningless when it comes to real players. It only works for NPCs.
I tried MakeFriends, but wish it could expand to color-code by GUILDs... Guilds make much more sense to IFF than nations.
Also, instead of fading color, I'd like to see the dot size or shape for DISTANCE.
anyway,
+1 to more options for radar: color, size, shape...
-1 to necromancy. Add a new post that link to ancient one!

Also, about distance indicator... I already suggested that radar screen is hardly readable in terms of easy distance recognition between different objects on radar screen.
Here is the proposition that would (probably) make radar 5 times as readable as it is now:

Hahahahaha
If someone posts a new thread with an existing suggestion, they get told off for not using the existing thread.
If they do use the existing thread, it's "thread necromancy", and they get told off for it.
Anyway, yeah, user definable radar colors is an awesome idea. Plx gief.

Complicated? I'm just asking for the ability to set arbitrary colors per dot from Lua. The uses I listed are just things I might do with it, not things I'm requesting to have done for me.
As for the necromancy, sorry about that. I forgot that around here we like linked redundancy. (Where I'm from we preferred just keeping things in single threads so that you could more easily trace the discussion, even if it was interrupted by years, as long as it wasn't really long or obsolete.) Next time I'll do the new-thread + link method.
