Upcoming iOS 13 controllers support
Hi all,
According to the rumors, regular Bluetooth-compatible game controllers like Dual Shock 4 and Xbox ONE S controllers will be natively supported by an upcoming iOS 13 on iPhones and iPads.
Will those controllers be fully functional in VO Mobile on iOS devices?
Thank you in advance!

If the OS supports a controller, its almost guaranteed VO will work with it. So has been the case on Android, at least - unless iOS exposes them differently, they should work instantly. and if it does, I easily see the new control method for at least common controllers being implemented fairly quick.
Just want to confirm that the Xbox One S controller indeed works with iPad iOS 13 beta - pairs flawlessly as a Bluetooth controller. However, I can't configure L3/R3 (i.e. ThumbLeft/ThumbRight) and two small middle "menu/back" buttons: they aren't available for configuration in Controller Help menu. Also, for some reason, keyboard tab in "advanced->controls" (which exists in Android and PC versions) is not shown; so, I don't know of another way of assigning their functions. One of the small middle buttons with burger icon has toggle flight assist function by default. Others have no function as far as I could test.
Another issue - Controller Help config window doesn't save changes to left and right analog sticks' X- and Y- axes. The only way to remap their functions is through Calibration tab->drop-down menu for X- and Y- axes; then, click "Apply".

personally I recommend using the calibration screen for analog input anyways, since some pilots don't use the same kind of controllers, or use multiple at a time
There is another bug (unless I'm doing something wrong) - the analog sticks' dead zone adjustment is not being taken into account even though the values are being saved. The controls behave absolutely the same with DZ @ 5% or @ 20%.
In my case, the right analog stick's Y axis (I use it for pitch) is very sensitive only in one direction - just resting the finger on the control knob and then lifting it off, makes the ship continuously pitch down (front flip).

@raybondo, can you please look into those issues? Also, controller mapping settings partially reset every time it loses connection or disconnects (both shoulder buttons, ABXY, and arrows/directional buttons reset). Every playing session starts with remapping the controls.
Hi. I just ordered a new iOS development device last night, to let us test with iOS 13 beta. Our existing devices aren't compatible. We'll probably receive it next week, and hopefully check it out.
Hello incarnate, thank you very much! My iPad is 2017 version.
Also would like to see an option to use full screen on my XS. A lot of wasted space on my screen with the black bars on each side.
How is the progress with iOS 13 , iPasOS and Catalina for the game?
FYI that we shipped a bunch of patches for MacOS 10.15 Catalina, I think that's working reasonably well.
As for all the feature requests for iOS and iPadOS, those are still in the pipe at the moment.

So, as of today we have released major updates for iOS and iPadOS, including your requested support for Xbox and PS4 gamepads (iOS 13 is required to enable all the buttons, that's on Apple's side).
I’ve looked through the settings and don’t see an option to not have whole parts of each side of the screen cut off on my IPhone 11. 1/4 of each button on the edges is hidden and all cargo info on the right is almost completely behind the notch of the screen.
Hi incarnate, thank you very much!
