Plugins with android 14

Jul 03, 2026 Balthazarde link
Hello,
I have Android version 14, and I believe that since version 11, it's no longer possible to access the "data" folder—needed to install plugins—without rooting the device. I have a Xiaomi Pad 6 tablet. Is there another solution?
Thanks!

It totally is possible to access /Android/data on your device, but you have to use a file manager that correctly asks for "special folder access", which most of the recommended/pre-installed ones do not (I have covered this in other topics but here we go again),

Do not use any of the file managers like the old Android tutorials suggest (Astro/ES file explorer wont work, neither will most that contain adverts or spamware - why people let ad and tracker ridden file managers access their files is beyond me but hey ho), instead use a sane file manager like FV File explorer, Root file explorer (no root access needed, despite the name) or any from this list https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/j3zgmm/managing_files_in_the_androiddata_folder_on/

Yes, Google did restrict a lot of these apps from messing with /Android, and created a new permission that needs to be requested by the app. When you first try to access /Android a pop up should fire off which asks for permission to access a certain folder, point it to /Android and jobs a good one.

It will work until this new thing rolls out anyway! At that point maybe the only help will be from the developers letting us specify a plugins folder outside of /Android that should be writable even with restrictions (like Documents).

More appropriately, you can access the location by connecting your Android device to a PC.
