VR in Axon 7 (daydream ready device)

Aug 22, 2018 cHenriques link
Hi,

I have a ZTE axon 7, which is daydream ready, all the other daydream apps work just fine.

However, the HD vendetta version app says incompatible with my device, so I cannot download it form the play store.

I saw somewhere people with the same device were able to play the daydream version.

Why am I having this problem?

My country is Portugal (I don't know if this is the problem).

Is it possible to buy the app somewhere, and get the apk to try on my device?

---------- edit ------------> I found the solution <-------------
So I finally figured out how to solve the problem. I will explain here my procedure to help other people in the same situation.

After install a samsung S8+ and a Pixel XL in an android emulator on my PC I start to suspect that the "device not compatible" message in the play store was not related with my device but with the country instead (Portugal), despite usually the message says "not available in your country".

Therefore, I changed my country in the paying method in pay.google.com. For that it asked me to create a new profile (inside the same google account), so I did it.

I putted united states, and a US address in the respective field.
Then I deleted the other profile (the Portugal one)
I added my credit car, and also my paypal account.

Yet, it was not possible to install the vendetta online HD from the playstore, now it says "not available on your country".

But through the browser in my PC (googling the app), I could see the buy option on the playstore. So I selected my axon 7 and I bought the app with paypal. the app started to install on my device automatically.

After installation I tested and everything is working fine. If I enter the game through the daydream app, I can play it with my headset. Amazing :)

I reversed all these in the google pay account (changed again my country to portugal), without any problem. the game is still working.

cheers,

thank you very much.

even if you live in portugal, check and see if it has the chinese rom or hardware in it; seems this set of the phones had daydream support removed.

if you open up settings and find the "Model number", it should list one of these three:

A2017G = European / Global
A2017U = US
A2017 = China

more on the model number stuff explained on this site

seems it might also be related to a firmware update that lacked the Daydream certification.

Hi Luxen,

Thank you very much for your reply.
Please help me, I would love to try this game in daydream, since there are not many complex games like this for VR in android.

My model is the A2017G, with the 7.1.1 official rom.

I guess the problem is not the daydream support, because all the other daydream apps and games can be installed from the playstore, and work just fine.

The HD version of vendetta does not even appear in my playstore, only if I browse it on google, but then, it says non of my devices is compatible, is there any way to know why it is not compatible? perhaps I could solve it.

I found an apk of the HD vendetta somewhere, I wanted just to know if my phone could run it.
After launch the app, it says that cannot download the game data because I did not bought the app (at the time I did not even know that the HD version was paid).

I would like to buy the game license, so that I could download the game data with this apk. Is there any way to buy the game with my account, without have any supported device?

Other possibility I can see is to spoof the playstore editing my build.prop, but at least for now I would like to avoid to root my device.

Any other suggesting?

thanks

unfortuneately, you need a dev to answer this, or maybe something's going on on Google's end. Not sure.

Basically, the regular Vendetta Online has stayed under 4 stars, not because of anything related to gameplay or stability, but purely because of negative reviews from non-English speakers. The title is constantly bombarded with "Translate into <language>!" one-star reviews, and a lot more from non-English regions that include no review-text. One Turkish reviewer threatened to write 100 bad reviews under different fake accounts, if we didn't translate the game into Turkish.

We've tried a lot of things.. starting the description with "English Only!", adding a pop-up message on initial installation that the game is NOT localized and is only in English, etc. But ultimately, people would rather just write a one-star review.

All of this has kept the game from being nearly as successful on mobile as it might be otherwise, because Google generally will not feature products that don't have the top star-ratings.

At the same time, we can't really afford to localize the game right now (it's quite a bit more complicated than for most other types of apps and games). We would if we could.

So, when we made the "HD" version, I specifically limited it to only be available in countries with a high percentage of native English speakers. This has helped keep the star-rating much higher for this version, which has resulted in greater opportunities for exposure from Google.

I'm glad you found a workaround.
