My comp doesn't seem to like acpi on gentoo...
If you're not on a laptop acpi doesn't mean a whole lot. If you are on a laptop and need some kind of detailed power management you can try apmd instead.

For those that think Linux crashes a lot:
Being a hobbyist developer, a beta tester for not only games but also software and running a full-blown domain w/Internet presence I tend to need to reboot Win2k Pro boxes about every 14-18 days, XP Pro about every 4-6 days and 2000 AS about once per 4-6 weeks.
By contrast my old Mandrake 6.0 file server has been up over 2 years now (with help from the UPS to counter power failures), my RedHat AS 2.1 boxes have been up since I built them over 2 months ago and I expect them to stay up until my home loses power sometime. My Mandrake 9.0 box (that I'm posting this from) has been up since I posted my radar issue in the Bugs forum (in which I rebooted to get my station indicator back on my radar - not because the OS hosed up) and that was over 2 weeks ago.
I hear Mac OSX is pretty stable, too, but I detest proprietary hardware and "My First OS" interfaces so nothing Mac is for me.
Granted, I've trashed many a Linux build by tweaking on all the wrong stuff but that was just part of my learning curve. Also, some of the times I rebuilt I now know were unecessary (like when the X sever thrashed or I jacked up the SysV init order... I can fix that kind of thing from a command line now).
I'll tell you what, though: I trashed just as many, if not more, Windows builds for the exact same reason. The biggest difference there, though, is that if you hose Windows up anything more than very lightly you have no choice but to rebuild, no matter your knowledge level.

Yeah, adding to that, our primary database server (it's not under a lot of load, only about two queries per second) but thats been running 58 days. Why 58 days you say? Well, it would be eight months(ish) but we had to upgrade it and I dont think they have hot-swap motherboards yet!...
Our primary nameserver (a 166mmx w32mb) has been going a year solid now.

This is not *my* OS X box, but my familiy's. If I had a choice, I might just wipe the drive and put PPC Linux on it, but my mom needs that "My First OS". So, it's a comprimise. Kinda. But I do enjoy having a good configuration GUI.
My idea of a good configuration GUI is the Mandrake Control Center. ;)
Listen, you want "my first OS", go get microsoft bob (here is a link all about bob)

Just be glad that OS is DEAD DEAD DEAD DEAD!!!!!!!!

Here's a fun one for a curious penguin:

Lets laugh at Windows n00bs... I know one that I allowed root access and he tried del *.* in root, and he couldnt get it to work... Know why??? He only used Redhat which has the del utility, but I have Gentoo o.0! So I laughed at him!!
