White screen in cockpit-view
Sometimes half the screen or the full screen goes white, I can still see the HUD and all the text. See http://home.bip.net/onepound/vendetta.png
This happens only in cockpit-view, other views are fine. In sector 10 it happens almost all the time.
I use Gentoo Linux with ATI drivers 3.2.8
Anyone know how to fix this? Is it a bug or a problem on my end?

That's bizarre. That sort of thing is usually a video driver bug, but it could also be our code trying to do some effect (such as rglow) that your card doesn't support and we don't properly detect the lack of support. If you delete (or temporarily rename) ~/.vendetta/config.ini does the problem persist?
If you turn off the HUD with 'h' does the whiteness still appear?
If so, go into the console by using '`' and type:
/set rglow 0
and see if that helps.

Yes.
'/set rglow 0' fixed it, thanks.

Just for future reference, this happens to me as well.

Uh oh. The R9800 is supposed to support rglow. If it's broken, the devs have a problem.
linux drivers are what's broken.
Has anyone here tried using rglow with xfree drm?
