when i target someone from the "u" menu i do an about face after i close the u menu weird huh

It has to do with you moving the mouse when you're in the "u" menu. When you come back into the game from the menu your mouse is checked for how far away from center it went and then turns your ship apropriately. Vendetta thinks your mouse moved way more than it normally would it acts as though you moved the mouse really fast basically turning you around.
At least that's what I think is happening.

Yes, that is what is happening. We should probably fix that.

I tried that and it didn't seem to happen in Windows.
Maybe the mouse isn't being warped back at the right time in Linux? I'll have to test it on the Mac too.
