Ubuntu config advice
So I'm a bit new to actual Linix hardware management. Looking for input on what plays nice with VO. My first stab came out amazing, hitting my capped 125 FPS with my lowest recorded being a 95 FPS. These are the relevant points of hardware:
3Ghz Core2Duo
GeForce 9800GTX
I installed 64bit Ubuntu 13.10, and swapped over to the nVidia binary driver version 3.19. I've set the sound to Alsa with some config.ini settings found on a thread to fix audio issues. So my questions are these:
1) Should I be running the AMD64 version or the IA32?
2) Are the 3.19 the best nVidia drivers for this, and if so: should I be concerned VO says I'm using the GLGK driver?
3) Are there any other "gotchas" that I should be aware of with a setup like this?

If you're running the 64-bit Ubuntu install, run the 64-bit version of the game.
When VO says it's using the GKGL driver, that's its own renderer option. On other platforms like Windows or Android there's options for Direct3D and OpenGL ES. For Linux, the only option is OpenGL, so that's fine.
With some nVidia cards, the open source driver is still in pretty sad shape, so your best bet is probably to use the binary blobs like you're already doing. One big exception to that is laptops with hybrid dual GPU stuff, but that doesn't sound like what you're working with here.

It's a bit embarassing how much of a hardware nerd I'm *not* anymore. I yam however a UI nerd, and plan to give back in the form of plugins galore!

Yeah for some reason they left out the calibration stuff on Windows, and the game controller calibration thing in the control panel does't make up for it.
Turn vsync on, a lot of people might disagree with me, but there really is no point in running at a higher FPS than your monitor can handle (never mind your eyes, but lets not go there).
VO really does seem more solid when it's running in sync with your screen. The constant up-down, up down of no vsync can really make it look crappy.

Yeah the game definitely looks better with vsync on, particularly with the red hit-flash and fast moving blaster fire.
8xMSAA is also worth enabling if you've got the video muscle for it. Vendetta has a lot of tiny details the often end up far into the distance and jaggies stick out like a sore thumb if AA is off.
